Notes: Abstract The mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) family is considered to be activated by stress, but the role of the MAPK family is still unknown in cardiac pathology. In the present study, not only the localization of MAPKs such as the extracellular responsive kinase (ERK), c-jun N-terminal kinase (JNK), and p38 MAPK (p38), but also ultrastructural changes were investigated in the ischemia-reperfusion model of Wistar rats. At 5, 10, 30, 60, and 180 min reperfusion after 30 min ischemia by occluding the coronary artery, the expression of these MAPKs was increased in blood vessels and cardiomyocytes by Western blotting and immunohistochemical methods. In addition, after ischemia reperfusion, various ultrastructural changes such as decreased glycogen granules, mitochondrial swelling, and myolysis were observed in the blood vessels and cardiomyocytes. These results suggest that protein kinases may regulate numerous biological processes, including the regulation of contraction and ion transport.

Notes: Abstract The Fourier transform infrared spectra and subtraction spectra of poly C film in the 4000 to 800 cm−1 region at 22°C were measured systematically as a function of relative humidity (from 0% to 100%) at static equilibrium. The peak position and intensity changes of infrared bands prove that the hydration of poly C has happened mainly on the-NH2 and C=O group of cytidine base, phosphate and ribose ring. The ~1664 cm−1 peak (NH2) and the ~1655 cm−1 peak (C=O) show the strongest variation in intensity starting from R.H. 〈12%. In comparison with the hydration of poly A which we studied, it indicates: (1) The polynucleotide molecules are surrounded by hydration water at their active sites. (2) Poly C can more easily be hydrated than poly A, since the polar group C=O of cytidine plays an important role during hydration.

Notes: Abstract The FT-IR photoacoustic spectra of Ru3(CO)12/Al2O3 (acidic and basic alumina) system have been measured for different ageing times. The behaviors of oxidation states of Ru on the surface of basic or acidic alumina and their difference are discussed on the ground of CO stretching bands of their spectra.

Notes: Abstract In the present investigation, four rare earth oxalates with different electronic structure [f 0(La, Y),f 7(Gd) andf 14(Lu)] were prepared. Their Fourier transform far- and mid-infrared spectra were examined with a Nicolet 7199 B spectrometer in a range from 100–4000 cm−1. Normal vibrational analysis of La, Gd, Lu and Y oxalate hydrates were carried out according to the FT-IR results. The assignment of vibrational frequencies is made on the basis of normal coordinate analysis. The average deviations of 30 frequencies of the four oxalates between the calculated and the experimental values are La=4.49, Gd=4.04, Lu=4.63 and Y=4.98 cm−1, respectively.
