    Notes: Summary Implantation of allogeneic pancreatic islets encapsulated in Millipore diffusion chambers has been reported to normalize the obese-hyperglycaemic syndrome in mice. In the present study, both young and adult ob/ob mice remained hyperglycaemic and gained weight after intrasplenic implantation of 500 isogeneic islets isolated from lean mice. Such islets normalized the elevated blood-glucose of alloxan-diabetic lean mice. Morphometric analysis of the intrasplenically implanted islets showed that the mean islet volume in the ob/ob mice was five times larger than that of the lean, non-diabetic mice. Immunocytochemical staining of the spleens showed an increased proportion of B-cells in the enlarged, intrasplenic islets in the ob/ob mice. Moreover, autoradiographical examination of these islets demonstrated the presence of several labelled cells. These results suggest that the growth of the implanted “lean” islets is due to extrapancreatic factors which stimulate islet cell replication in the obese-hyperglycaemic mouse.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper, the measuring methods of the rotational components, i. e. the free angular velocity and the moment mobility are presented. The performance of a moment actuator composed of two magnetostrictive rods (Tb0.3 Dy0.7 Fe1.95) is discussed. Both theory and experiment show that the performance of the moment actuator does not influence the measurement results of the moment mobilities basically but affects the efficiency for exciting rotation. The efficiency for exciting rotation has also been calculated.

    Notes: Abstract: We present an investigation of the 2D attractive Hubbard model, considered as an effective model relevant to superconductivity in strongly interacting electron systems. We use both hybrid Monte-Carlo simulations and existing hopping parameter expansions to explore the low temperature domain. The increase of the static S-wave pair correlation with decreasing temperature, which depends weakly on the band filling in the explored temperature range, is analyzed in terms of an expected Kosterlitz-Thouless superconducting transition. Using both our data and previously published results, we show that the evidence for this transition is weak: If it exists, its temperature is very low. The number of unpaired electrons remains nearly constant with temperature at fixed attractive potential strength. In contrast, the static magnetic susceptibility decreases fast with temperature, and cannot be related only to pair formation. We introduce a method by which the Padé approximants of the existing series for the susceptibility give sensible results down to rather low temperature region, as shown by comparison with our numerical data.
