Description / Table of Contents:
Summary 1. 16 patients with myocardial infarction who showed no overt diabetes mellitus were investigated. 2. On the basis of the tolbutamide test, half of the patients showed a latent diabetes while another third was highly suspicious. 3. Although in all cases the fasting blood sugar was less than 105 mg-%, the mean in the patients with myocardial infarction ( $$\bar x$$ =79 mg-%) was higher than that of a control group ( $$\bar x$$ =62,4 mg-%). 4. The means of the triglycerides, cholesterol and free fatty acids in patients with myocardial infarction were higher when compared with a control group, but did not differ from those in patients with treated diabetes. 5. On the basis of these investigations one can assume that latent diabetes might play an important role in the pathogenesis of myocardial infarction.
