Description / Table of Contents: Summary The lipids in normal human Leukocytes — isolated by a method described previously — were determined by microliter-methods. We found the following average values per 109 cells: total lipids 15,56 mg, lipidphosphorus 0,42 mg, phospholipids 10,43 mg, total cholesterol 2,83 mg, unesterified cholesterol 2,32 mg and total esterified fatty acids 6,48 mg.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The influence of the nicotinic acid and of theβ-adrenergic blocking agent propranolol on the lipolysis induced by epinephrine, norepinephrine, ACTH and TSH in epididymal fat pads of the rat in vitro is investigated. Nicotinic acid blocks the lipolytic action of the catecholamines and the peptide hormones. Theβ-blocking agent only inhibits the catecholamine induced lipolysis, not that induced by ACTH and TSH. Spontaneous lipolysis is influenced neither by nicotinic acid nor by propranolol. It is concluded that the catecholamines act on lipolysis by another mechanism than the peptide hormones do.
