Notes: We report a case of lymphomatoid papulosis which developed in a 29-year-old pregnant woman. She had numerous papules scattered over the inner aspect of the left thigh. Histology of the biopsy specimen demonstrated an atypical mononuclear cell infiltration of the dermis. Spontaneous regression of the lesions occurred after termination of gestation. A possible effect of hormonal changes and alterations in T lymphocyte activity during pregnancy on the occurrence of lymphomatoid papulosis is discussed.

Notes: Abstract We examined the effects of daily topical application of 0.05% tretinoin cream on photodamaged Caucasian facial skin by electron microscopy. Specimens obtained pretreatment, after 6 and 12 months of tretinoin therapy (20 patients), and after 6 months of vehicle treatment (5 patients) were compared in a blinded fashion, with special attention to the dermoepidermal junction and papillary dermis. Baseline specimens disclosed various degrees of damage including reduplication of basal lamina, smudging and sparsity of collagen fibers, and nodular arrangement of degenerated microfibrils in the papillary dermis. No significant changes were observed at 6 months in the papillary dermis of either tretinoin-treated or vehicle-treated patients. After 12 months of tretinoin treatment, however, disorganized collagen fibers, which were conspicuous in 11 patients at baseline, were replaced by new well-organized collagen fibers in a wavy pattern in 6 patients. In addition, the amount of nodularly degenerated microfibrillar material decreased in 15 of 18 patients with this finding at baseline. In contrast, no significant change was noted in the number of anchoring fibrils per unit length of the lamina densa. These observations provide further evidence that topical treatment with 0.05% tretinoin produces papillary dermal reconstruction, for which more than 6 months of application were required.

Notes: Abstract Doped LaMnO3 systems are used as cathodes in solid oxide fuel cells, mainly due to their high electronic conductivity, thermal matching to the electrolyte material and good catalytic activity towards oxygen reduction. Lanthanum deficient LaMnO3 has been shown to have a higher electronic conductivity than stoichiometric LaMnO3, however, the material has been found to sinter more readily causing a reduction in the efficiency of the cathode. This paper discusses the effect of imparting non-stoichiometry to the LaMnO3 system with the incorporation of a B site dopant, Cr. The paper examines the effect on the conductivity and phase present with increased Cr content, and shows that Cr in LaMn1−zCrzO3, up to z=0.15, does not produce an unacceptably large decrease in the electronic conductivity, especially for a Ca doped, A site deficient system. Thus, a B site doped system is considered as a possible candidate for solid oxide fuel cell cathode systems.

Notes: Abstract The electrical conductivity in the ZrO2-Ln2O3 and ZrO2-MO2-Ln2O3(M = Hf, Ce, Ln = lanthanides) systems has been examined. The highest conductivity of 0.3 S/cm at 1000 °C was found in the ZrO2-Sc2O3 system. The addition of MO2 into the ZrO2-Ln2O3(Ln = Sc, Y, Yb) systems showed the conductivity decreasing. The conduction mechanism in the zirconia based oxide ion conductors was discussed in view of the dopant ionic radius. The aging effect of the conductivity in the ZrO2-Ln2O3 systems has been measured in a temperature rang 800–1000 °C. ZrO2 with a high content of Ln2O3 showed no significant conductivity degradation.
