Notes: Summary Following simultaneous injection of RISA-J-131 (MW 69000) and Antipyrin-J-125 (MW 326) into the jugular vein, the time-concentration curves of the 2 isotopes were measured after cardiopulmonary passage. Due to its low molecular weight, the antipyrine penetrates into the extravascular space. Therefore the difference between the volume of albumin and that of antipyrine can be regarded as an indicator of the development of interstitial pulmonary edema. A significant increase in the extravascular volume was also seen in experimental myocardial infarction up to 5hrs after ligature of the coronary artery. Experimental fracture of the femur was performed in rabbits: 90 min later an increase of the extravascular volume by 0.5 ml/kg body weight was determined.
