    Notes: Abstract A tandemly repeated DNA sequence (RRS7) was isolated from Oryza alta (CCDD). RRS7-related sequences were also found tandemly arrayed in genomes AA, BB, BBCC, CC, and EE, and a small amount of RRS7-related sequences were detected in genome FF and the Oryza species with unknown genomes. DNA sequence analysis of the 1844-bp insert of RRS7 revealed that it contained six tandemly repeated units, of which five were 155 bp in length and one was 194 bp in length and contained an imperfect internal 39-bp duplication. Southern blot analysis showed that the boundary sequence contained in RRS7 is a single-copy sequence. A 155-bp consensus sequence derived from the six monomeric repeats contained no internal repeat and showed no significant homology to other currently known sequences. The results of Southern blot and sequence analysis revealed that there are at least two subfamilies present in the RRS7 family; these are represented by the DraI site and the MspI site, respectively. Restriction digestion with two pairs of isoschizomers MboI/Sau3A and MspI/HpaII demonstrated that most of the C residues in the GATC sites and the internal C in the CCGG sites of the RRS7 family in O. Alta were methylated. The usefulness of the RRS7 family in determining the evolutionary relationship of the genome DD and other Oryza genomes is discussed.

    Notes: Abstract (E)-12-Tetradecenyl acetate (E12–14∶OAc), (Z)-12-tetradecenyl acetate (Z12–143nOAc), and tetradecanyl acetate (14∶OAc) were extracted and identified as major chemical components from female tips of the Asian corn borer,Ostrinia furnacalis (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) in Taiwan, with a combined wash ratio of 48∶37∶15 and an individual female ratio of 45∶39∶16. The average amount ofE12-,Z12–14∶OAc and 14∶OAc in each female gland was 6.6±4.6, 5.8±3.5, and 2.4±1.7 ng/female, respectively. The mixture of these three synthetic chemicals not only gave strong activities in male antennae but also could catch significantly more males than virgin females in field-trapping tests. The field test also showed no significant difference in trapping ability among the three-component Taiwan formulations, the two-component Taiwan formulation (Z12–14∶OAc andZ1214∶OAc, 53∶47), and the Japan formulation (Z12–14∶ OAc andE 12–14∶OAc, 3:2).

    Notes: Abstract In this paper, the problem of the robust stabilization for a class of uncertain linear dynamical systems with time-varying delay is considered. By making use of an algebraic Riccati equation, we derive some sufficient conditions for robust stability of time-varying delay dynamical systems with unstructured or structured uncertainties. In our approach, the only restriction on the delay functionh(t) is the knowledge of its upper boundh −. Some analytical methods are employed to investigate these stability conditions. Since these conditions are independent of the delay, our results are also applicable to systems with perturbed time delay. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the use of the sufficient conditions developed in this paper.

    Notes: Abstract The problem of the robust stability of large-scale dynamical systems including delayed states and parameter perturbations in interconnections is considered. By using algebraic Riccati equations and some analytical methods, some sufficient conditions on linear decentralized state feedback controllers are derived so that the systems remain stable in the presence of delayed states and parameter perturbations. Such conditions give some bounds on the perturbations of interconnections with delayed states and uncertain parameters, and result in a quantitative measures of robustness for large-scale dynamical systems including delayed states and uncertain parameters in interconnections. The results obtained in this paper are applicable not only to large-scale systems with multiple time-varying delays, but also to large-scale systems without exact knowledge of the delays, i.e., large-scale systems with uncertain delays.
