Notes: Summary Alterations in cell shape of the light-sensitive chromatophores of Centrostephanus longispinus are described. Upon illumination a centrifugal pigment movement starts within extremely thin filopodia which radiate from the cell body. With continued pigment migration the cellular processes increase in length and diameter and give the cell an irregular stellate appearance. Pigment movement within the cellular processes is discontinuous in space and time and may occur independently in single filopodia. The motion of single granules shows characteristic features of a saltatory movement.

Notes: Summary The basiepithelial nerve plexus of the Echinoid, Centrostephanus longispinus, contains strands of nerve fibres, which measure between 0.1 and 2.0 μm in diameter. Nonciliated epithelial supporting cells do not contribute to the plexus. Within the fibres different vesicular inclusions are found. By means of serial sectioning the structure of multipolar cell bodies within the plexus could be demonstrated.

Notes: Summary Alterations in cell shape of the light-sensitive chromatophores of the sea urchin Centrostephanus longispinus were studied by scanning- and transmission electron microscopy. Transition of the aggregated to the dispersed state is accompanied by incorporation of vesicles into the membrane of the pigment cell. During dispersion a system of microtubules originating from centriole-like structures is established throughout the stellate cell. Within restricted areas of the cell, cytoplasmic differentiation and condensation is found. The possible functional significance of the findings is briefly discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: Several cyclic diurethanes were synthesized by two different methods applying RUGGLIZIEGLER'S principle of dilution. Only by preparation from diamines and diol-bis-chlorocarbonate good yields could be obtained. Using diols and diisocyanates as starting materials linear polyurethans were the main products.

Description / Table of Contents: The bis-chlorocarbonates of some oligo-ethylene glycols HO - (CH2CH2O)nH (n = 1-6) were reacted with hexamethylene diamine, m-toluylene diamine, p-phenylene diamine respectively to form the corresponding cyclic diurethanes. The dependency of the yield regarding the ringsize shows a maximum with 17 members in the ring. Also the catalyzed reaction of diisocyanates with diols was used for the preparation of cyclic urethanes. In the presence of di-n-butyltin-dilaurate exchange reactions were observed between hydroxyl-endgroups and urethane-groups as well as between urethane-groups.
