    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 4-Chlor-2-methylpyrimidino[4′,5′:4,5]thiazolo[3,2-a]benzimidazol (3) wurde durch Chlorierung von2, welches auch direkt zu 2-Methylpyrimidino[4′,5′:5,4]thiazolo[3,2-a]-benzimidazol-4-thiol (4) umgesetzt werden kann, hergestellt. Nucleophile Substitution von3 mit Alkoholen, Phenolen, primären Aminen, sekundären Aminen, Natriumazid und Mercaptoessigsäure ergab die entsprechenden Derivate. Das Thiolderivat4 wurde mit Alkyl/Alkarylhalogeniden, Phenacylbromidderivaten, Bromaceton, Chloraniliden, Brommalonsäureester und Bromessigsäureethylester zu potentiell pharmakologisch interessanten Verbindungen umgesetzt.
    Notes: Summary 4-Chloro-2-methylpyrimidino[4′,5′:4,5]thiazolo[3,2-a]benzimidazole (3) was prepared by chlorination of2 which could also be converted directly to 2-methylpyrimidino[4′,5′:4,5]-thiazolo[3,2-a]benzimidazol-4-thiol (4). Nucleophilic substitution of3 with alcohols, phenols, primary amines, secondary amines, sodium azide, and mercaptoacetic acid gave the corresponding derivatives. The thiol derivative4 was reacted with alkyl/aralkyl halides, phenacyl bromide derivatives, bromoacetone, chloroanilides, bromomalonic ester, and ethyl bromoacetate to afford compounds of potential pharmacological interest.

Fast alle Reaktionen ergeben ein einziges Isomeres, von dem mittels molekularmechanischer Berechnungen gezeigt werden konnte, daß es sich dabei um das energetisch günstigere Produkt handelt.
    Notes: Summary Submittingcis- andtrans-11,13-dibromo-9,10-dimethoxy-9,10-propanoanthracen-12-one (4a,b) toFavorskii conditions (MeOH/KOH, 60°C) afforded theFavorskii ester5a and the α-keto acetal5b in 46% overall yield. Almost all reactions resulted in the formation of a single isomer which could be shown to be the most favored one by molecular mechanics calculations (MM2).

    Notes: Abstract The choline, trigonelline, Nε-trimethyl-L-lysine content in the leaf tissue of tomato plants grown with varying amounts of nitrate nitrogen was determined by the OPLC method. The choline and trigonelline level in tomato leaves increased in direct ratio to the nitrogen supply. The possible role of these compounds in the physiology and in the augmented resistance of plants to nectrotizing stresses is discussed.

    Notes: Abstract Experiments were carried out to measure the average natural convection heat transfer from the outside surface of isothermal square cylinders of different lengths and side-lengths at different angles of inclination in both the laminar and the turbulent regions. The heat transfer was found to depend on the side-length and the inclination. Due to the presence of edge-effects the heat transfer coefficient always exceeded that of the vertical plate and that of “the equivalent circular cylinder” in the same condition. General equations representing the experimental results are suggested.

    Notes: Graft copolymerization of hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) onto poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fibers using benzoyl peroxide (BP) as initiator was carried out in water and in water/organic solvent as a reaction medium. The effect of initiator concentration, reaction time, temperature, and reaction medium as well as addition of FeSO4 to the polymerization medium was studied. Percent grafting was enhanced significantly by increasing BP concentration up to 0.016 mol/L and then decreased upon further increase in initiator concentration. Increasing the monomer (HEMA) concentration up to 0.48 mol/L improves significantly the graft yield. Raising the polymerization temperature up to 85°C causes a significant increase in grafting yield; further increase in temperature leads to decrease in graft yield. Incorporation of Fe+2 ions in the polymerization system decrease the graft yield. The same situation is encountered when water/solvent mixture is used as reaction medium. Solvent employed were methanol, toluene, and benzene.

    Notes: Ethylene glycol (4-vinylphenyl-)-boronate (2) was copolymerized with technical divinylbenzene to highly crosslinked macroporous polymer (P2). On treatment of P2 with methanol/water, 75% of the polymer-bound ethylene glycol could be split-off, under formation of the desired polymer (P1) with free phenylboronic acid groups. The utility of P1 in the solid-phase synthesis, for instance its conversion to polymer-supported phenol, and as polymer-supported protecting group for diols was investigated.

    Notes: With the aid of a chiral template molecule functional groups could be placed in a highly crosslinked polymer in such a way that they are present in a chiral cavity in a given stereochemistry. By this method methyl, resp. 4-nitrophenyl α-D-mannopyranoside-2,3; 4,6-di-O-(4-vinylphenylboronate) (1a, resp. 1b) were copolymerized to macroporous polymers from which the templates methyl, resp. 4-nitrophenyl α-D-mannopyranoside (2a, resp. 2b) could be split off in return. It could be shown that such polymers with two boronic acid groupings within the chiral cavity possess a good ability for the resolution of racemates of the template used. In the case of the separation of the enantiomers of 2b separation factors up to 2,27 could be obtained. The overall optical enrichment in a chromatographic separation amounted to 87%.
