Notes: A new mutant rat strain with movement disorders has arisen spontaneously in a closed colony of Albino–Swiss rats at the Department of Anatomy, Glasgow University. The animals possess a progressive locomotor disorder which is first apparent at around post-natal day 10. We here report that tyrosine hydroxylase immunocytochemistry demonstrates that these mutants have profound depletions in dopaminergic systems in the substantia nigra and corresponding areas of neostriatum.

Notes: [Auszug] Mahieu has demonstrated1 that there are electrical and luminescent effects associated with .the failure of glass reinforced resins. He showed that current changes of between 10~12 and 10-10 A occurred both in the direction of the bias current and/or in opposition to it when a tensile specimen was ...

Notes: Summary 3,6-Dichloro- and 3,6-dibromo-8-quinolinols were prepared by direct halogenation of 8-nitroquinoline by N-halosuccinimide in acetic acid or by halogenation of the corresponding 6-halo-8-nitroquinoline prepared via aSkraup reaction. The nitro group was reduced to amino and the amine was hydrolyzed to the phenol in 70% sulfuric acid at 220°C. The fungitoxicity of 3,6-dichloro- and 3,6-dibromo-8-quinolinols, as well as intermediates in their preparation, againstAspergillus niger, Aspergillus oryzae, Myrothecium verrucaria, Trichoderma viride, andMucor cirinelloides was determined. 3,6-dichloro-8-quinolinol is the most fungitoxic analogue of this class of compounds observed to date.

Notes: Summary The theory is presented for high frequency edge waves on a convex exponential profile, having zero depth at the coastline. Dispersion relations are found in terms of the longshore wave number. Certain bounds are determined for the frequency of the waves, in particular, the high frequency waves have a lower frequency bound which is expressed in terms of the order of the wave. The group velocity of the high frequency waves attains a maximum value but tends to zero at very high and very low longshore wave numbers. The group velocity is shown to be less than half the phase velocity and to always be less than a critical velocity which is a function of the shelf parameters. This critical velocity is about 26 m/s for the shelf off Sydney.

Notes: Abstract The availability of scanning attachments for transmission microscopes and the advent of very high resolution scanning microscopes now enables materials to be studied in both the back scattered and transmission scanning modes. It is the purpose of this review to present in outline the subject of transmission scanning microscopy, the advocated advantages in comparison with conventional transmission microscopy and some of the achieved and potential applications.
