Notizen: [Auszug] In the present study, we have found that a confor-mationally restricted structural analogue of GABA, cis-l,3-aminocyclohexane carboxylic acid (ACHC) (Fig. 1), which has previously been reported to competitively inhibit GABA transport in slices of cerebral cortex1, selectively inhibits neuronal ...

Notizen: Abstract Thirty-eight species of fungi were identified in pure culture after isolation from activated sewage sludge by serial dilution. Nine species and genera were identified that had not been previously reported. In 1963, Cooke (1) published an excellent laboratory guide on the identification of fungi from polluted water, sewage, and sewage treatment systems; of approximately 30 papers cited only one (2) dealt with fungi from activated sewage sludge. Later (1970), Cooke & Pipes (3) enumerated 47 fungi consisting of 4 genera of yeasts and 33 genera of filamentous fungi that had been isolated from activated sludge. This paper reports the mycoflora of anaerobically digested sludge from a residential area in Auburn, Alabama.

Notizen: Summary The intestinal absorption and urinary elimination rate of total cardioactive material was compared following digoxin and beta-methyldigoxin (BMD) administration to twelve healthy volunteers. Significantly more injected digoxin was recovered in urine. Urinary clearance was more rapid for digoxin, mean half-lives of elimination being 35 hours for digoxin and 40 hours for BMD. Calculated percentage intestinal absorption was lowest for digoxin tablets with a dissolution rate of 77% in one hour, intermediate for BMD tablets, and maximal for an experimental soft gelatin formulation of digoxin in solution. Respective mean values were 75%, 87% and 97%. Similar steady state plasma concentrations followed twice daily ingestion of the 0.25 mg digoxin tablets and 0.20 mg BMD tablets. Mean peak plasma concentration and percentage urinary recovery of ingested dose were higher during continued BMD administration. Between-subject variation in absorption was higher for the digoxin tablets. The comparative intestinal absorption of BMD and digoxin depends upon the formulation. Digoxin is virtually completely absorbed from a solution encapsulated in soft gelatin. Relatively more BMD is eliminated by nonrenal routes.

Notizen: Abstract An experimental population of Crepis capillaris (2n=6) displays frequent chromosome-specific univalence affecting all three chromosome pairs of the complement independently in different plants. The frequency of univalence in the population varies from 0% in some plants to about 40% of pollen mother cells in other plants. Most commonly, affected pollen mother cells contain just one pair of univalents and wherever the frequency of cells containing univalents exceeds 10%, a chromosome-specific effect almost invariably appears. Univalence affecting the A, C and D chromosome pairs is about equally frequent in the population. The mean cell chiasma frequencies of affected plants are generally lower than those of normal plants from the same population, despite suggestions of compensating increases in the chiasma frequencies of unaffected chromosomes pairs in the presence of specific univalence of a third pair. Breeding tests have been carried out, and observations made on pachytene stages which demonstrate that the specific univalence is due to recessive genes causing desynapsis following apparently normal pairing of homologues.
