Notes: Conclusion In Table 3 we have listed the Q values of165Ho and181Ta obtained by the pionic methods from this experiment and the one from Ebersoldet. al. and also the results by the muonic methods.4, 5 They are all in good agreements within the experimental uncertainties around 1%. The large discrepency between the Q values of181Ta from Ref. 5 and Ref. 7 was discussed and explained in detail in Ref. 5. The εo obtained in165Ho is comparable to the εo calculated by using the Kisslinger's potential. However, the experimental εo for181Ta from this experiment is 28% larger than the theoretical value by Scheck3 by using the perturbation method. As it was mentioned at the beginning of this paper that the strong interaction quadrupole effect introduces characteristic level broadening to each components of the multiplet. The excellent fit between the calculated composite curve with the observed experimental h.f.s. spectra could be obtained only by varying all three independent parameters Qeff, εo and Γo. Without Γo, or Γ2, no satisfactory fitting could be obtained. That this illustrates the intrigue strong quadrupole effects on each components of a multiplet do behave as predicted by Scheck.3

Notes: Summary The association of tubular structures (TS) with mycoplasma-like organisms (MLO) inVinca rosea plants infected with the Alberta isolate of the aster yellows agent was investigated. Studies on graft transmission and infection time course monitored by electron microscopy revealed that MLO were associated with TS in all infection stages examined, viz., from an incubation period to 1 month after symptom development, and that TS were transferable from plant to plant together with MLO by grafting. Intracellular orientation of TS and their relations to MLO were illustrated.

Notes: Polarized Raman intensities have been obtained from thin films of oriented low-density polyethylene (PE) immersed in silicone oil to minimize surface scattering. Studies were made using the 1170 cm-1 crystalline band and the 1081 cm-1 amorphous band, and from these the orientation averages 〈cos2 θ〉 and 〈cos4 θ〉 were calculated. These were found to compare favorably with the values of 〈cos2 θ〉 for the polymer chain in the crystalline and amorphous phases obtained from measurements of infrared dichroism. Both orientation averages could be theoretically fitted by using reasonable parameters.
