Notes: Summary Syncephalastrum racemosum ATCC 18192 andMycobacterium rhodochrous ATCC 19067 partially degrade the n-pentyl side chain of cannabidiol, cannabinol, Δ8-tetrahydrocannabinol and Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol. Carboxylic acid and alcohol side chain derivatives are major metabolites.

Notes: Summary A rapid, convenient TLC method is described for detection of cyclochlorotine, a carcinogen produced by the commonly found storage moldPenicillium islandicum Sopp. This method has also led to the isolation of a new toxic metabolite, simatoxin.

Notes: The T c behavior of vapor-deposited Nb3Ge and Nb3Sn is examined as a function of low-fluence alpha-particle irradiation. It is found that for Nb3Sn with ϱ ∼ 15 ΜΩ-cm the T c is insensitive to low doses of radiation, whereas Nb3Ge with ϱ0 ∼ 50 ΜΩ-cm has its T c depressed immediately with irradiation. It is suggested that the T c behavior of A-15 superconductors in the regime of small dose is strongly influenced by the initial state of the sample. Furthermore, it is argued that the behavior of the T c with dose can be qualitatively explained by considering a sharp structure in the density of states N(E), the smearing of which by defects leads to a depression in T c .

Notes: Summary The pulsatile flow of an elastico-viscous liquid through an elliptic tube is considered in this note. The problem is solved as a boundary and initial value problem by using the Laplace Transform method. Explicit expressions for velocity distribution are obtained in the two limiting cases of small and large values of time. The effect of elasticity on the flow is discussed analytically.

Notes: Abstract Unsteady flows in an electrically conducting rotating elastico-viscous liquid in the presence of a uniform magnetic field and induced by small amplitude torsional oscillations, acting for a finite time, of an infinite, rigid, non-conducting plate, are discussed. This analysis indicates the general features of the steady and unsteady velocity field, and the structure of the associated boundary layers on the plate including the effect of rotation, hydromagnetic and elastic parameters involved in the problem. The velocity field related to small elastic parameter is calculated with physical significance. It is further shown that the Ekman suction velocity, which is responsible for the generation of an axial inflow toward the bounadry layer, does not appear unless the plate is subject to oscillations for an indefinite period. Several limiting results are found to follow as special cases of this analysis.

Notes: The polymerization of acrylamide has been studied in ethanol at 80°C with 2,2′-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as the initiator, and also in water at 60°C with 4,4′-azobis-4-cyanopentanoic acid (ACV) as the initiator. For the first system, it was found, approximately, that the well defined in duction period showed an inverse dependence on both the initial monomer and initiator concentrations, but was directly proportional to the square root of the initial oxygen concentration. For the second system, the rate of oxygen uptake was approximately directly proportional to the monomer and initiator concentration but independent of the oxygen concentration. The results obtained for these two systems are compared.
