Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Catalytic activity of CrO3/SiO2 samples for 2-propanol conversion is governed by only a small amount of active centers (estimated to be around 1017 per gram of catalyst), whereas excess chromium neither develops catalytic activity nor inhibits the reaction on the active sites. Only when the chromium loading is high enough to allow formation of bulk-like agglomerates (5 wt.% Cr) is 2-propanol converted also on this CrOx surface phase, but with a significant higher activation energy.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Different surface phases of silica supported vanadia catalysts have been characterized by static adsorption, reduction, and reoxidation experiments under vacuum conditions. The obvious mobility of vanadium involved in some preparation steps gives rise to a diversification of initial precursor phases as a function of pretreatment conditions and SiOH concentration.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract Nonsteady state activity during the gas phase oxidation of ethanol in a simple flow reactor and its dependence on pretreatment and reaction conditions can be explained utilizing the previously presented model of possible surface vanadia phases on silica.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary With cerebral-palsied patients modified activators are successfully used to treat oral sensorimotor disorders like defective speech articulation, mastication and swallowing habits and to reduce or stop constant drooling and pulling reflex grimaces. The appliances now being used have been developed during the last ten years. A detailed description regarding construction, handling and modifications is given.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary Sensory and motor disturbances centered around the facial, oral and pharyngeal area constitute the most severe handicaps in the cerebral palsied population. A short survey of the currently available therapeutic approaches is given. In more than 100 patients during the last ten years we used in addition individually modified orthodontic devices and witnessed many unexpectedly good results. Close cooperation with habilitation and rehabilitation specialists (dentists, orthodontists, developmental neurologists, speech therapists, physiotherapists) who have sufficient insight into general and local postural interactions, is mandatory. Thus the devices are always modified according to the actual sensory and motor situation and also to the immediate needs of functional training and developmental steps in the individual patient.

Notes: Summary It is a pleasure to read this book. The state of art for Newton-type methods is given. It is strongly recommended also for teaching purposes. Numerical analysis is presented in an optimal way including both theory and computational aspects.

Notes: Summary Polybia sericea (Olivier) (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) foragers were trained to visit experimental foraging plots and tests were conducted to determine the role of visual, olfactory, and chemotactile cues in prey location. Foragers approached prey from downwind and hovered downwind of visual and olfactory stimuli. Olfactory cues were more likely to elicit landing than were visual cues. Biting of potential prey was most consistently elicited by a combination of visual, tactile, and chemotactile cues. Foragers encountering large prey carried a piece back to the nest and returned for prey remains. These returning foragers used visual cues to direct intensive aerial search; olfactory prey cues elicited landing.
