    Notes: A case of generalized eruptive histiocytoma (GEH) was evaluated and examined histopathologically and ultrastructurally. A 24-year-old male had an episode of high fever and drug-induced eruption prior to the appearance of multiple skin lesions. Uniform, red to dark-red papular lesions appeared on his cheeks and then became generalized. The lesions were composed of a massive dermal infiltrate of histiocytes, which had oval nuclei and amphophilic cytoplasm. The cytoplasm contained unique annular structures, myeloid bodies and vacuoles. The specificity of these structures is as yet unknown. Reactive stimulation rather than neoplastic proliferation may be a causative factor in GEH.

    Notes: Macromelanosomes in a spindle and epithelioid cell nevus, which occurred in the electron beam-damaged skin of a woman with mycosis fungoides, were ultrastructurally investigated. The melanosomes in the spindle and epithelioid cells were varied in size but uniformly spherical in shape and composed of a core and cortex structure. Electron-lucent bodies were observed in the small melanosomes as well as in the macromelanosomes. Positive dopaoxidase reaction was revealed on the cortex of these melanosomes and partly on their electron-lucent bodies. The electron-lucent bodies were not vesicular structures but were aggregates of filamentous elements, which had a continuity with fibrous structures in the melanosome cortex. It is concluded that the electron-lucent bodies may be one of the matrices of melanization. Anomalously large accumulations of these bodies and concentrical melanization seem to lead to the formation of macromelanosomes.

    Notes: Summary Distribution of two complementary genes Hwc-1 and Hwc-2 causing F1 weakness was examined using 159 native rice cultivars and 30 strains of wild relatives collected from various sites of tropical Asia including the Himalayan foothills. Hwc-1 is carried by a Peruvian cultivar, Jamaica, a tester cultivar of this experiment. It was not found in the tested cultivars and strains. Hwc-2 was widely distributed in the Japonica types tested. No wild strains had either Hwc-1 or Hwc-2. Hwc-2 was infrequent in the Japonica types collected from Southern Asian countries. Hwc-2 was estimated to be indigenous to the Japonica types, may be linked with certain gene(s) related to adaptation.

    Notes: Abstract An acellular pertussis vaccine JNIH-6 containing pertussis toxin and filamentous hemagglutinin was evaluated in adult volunteers with regard to adverse reactions and antibody response. Adverse reactions were few and mild. A late onset local reaction was seen in 22 of the 47 vaccinees (47 %) as compared to none of the 20 subjects receiving a placebo, the carrier solution of aluminium phosphate of the vaccine. The reaction, which manifested itself on the 6th to 8th day after vaccination, consisted in all cases of an induration and/or swelling considered insignificant by the majority of the subjects. The reaction was only found in vaccinees receiving a first dose of vaccine and was independent of the prevaccination antitoxin level. The vaccine induced a highly satisfactory antibody response to both filamentous hemagglutinin and pertussis toxin.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Der durch die axiale Temperaturverteilung während der Übergangsphase von Aufheizen und Abkühlen verursachte thermische Streß rund um den Natriumfüllstand des LMFBR-Reaktorkessels ist für den Reaktorkesselkonstrukteur, besonders im Entwurfstadiuni eines der wichtigsten Probleme. Die mit den transienten Operationsbedingungen der Anlage und der Gestaltung des Reaktorkessels in Beziehung stehenden Grundparameter müssen sorgfältig ermittelt werden, um zu verhindern, daß der thermische Streß die geplanten Streßgrenzen nicht überschreitet. Um den thermischen Streß um den Natriumfüllstand, leicht und ökonomisch zu bestimmen, wurde ein Komputerprogramm für die Parameterübersicht aufgestellt. In diesem Programm wird von einer eindimensionalen Fourrierreihe zur Analyse der transienten Temperaturverteilung und einer auf der Schalentheorie von Streßwertbestimmungen basierende analytische Lösung Gebrauch gemacht. Im vorliegenden Artikel werden eine vereinfachte und wirtschaftliche Berechnungsmethode für die axiale Temperaturverteilung und Streßwerte bei transienten Arbeitsbedingungen mitgeteilt und mit diesem Komputerprogramm ausgeführte Analysenbeispiele angegeben.
    Abstract: Резюме Термическое напряже ние, возникающее вокр уг уровня натрия в баке жидкометаллическог о быстрого реактора-р азмножителя (ЛМФБР) и вызванное акс иальным распределением темп ературы в условиях на грева и охлаждения, является наиболее важной проблемой для констр укторов ядерных реак торов, в особенности, на стади и проектирования. Ключевые параметры, к асающиеся эксплуата ционных нестационарных усло вий и основной конфигурации бака яд ерного реактора, долж ны быть тщательно установле ны, а исследуемые термические напряже ния не должны превыша ть установленные преде лы. С целью простого и экономичного опреде ления термического н апряжения уровня натрия, разраб отана простая программа, которая ис пользует решение одн оразмерных фурье-рядов при анали зе нестационарного температурного расп ределения, а аналитич еское решение паряжение ос новано на теории оболочек при определ ении величины напряж ения. Представлен упрощен ный и экономичный метод расчета аксиал ьного распределения температуры и величины напряжени я в реакторе ЛМФБР, а также показан ы примеры анализа, про веденного с помощью компьютерн ой программы.
    Notes: Abstract The thermal stress around the sodium level of the LMFBR reactor vessel, caused by the axial temperature distribution during heat-up and cool-down transient conditions, is one of the most important problems for a reactor vessel designer, especially in a conceptual design stage. Key parameters relating to plant operating transient conditions and reactor vessel main configuration should be settled carefully, thermal stresses not being allowed to exceed design stress limits. In order to examine the sodium level thermal stress easily and economically, a simple computer program for parameter survey has been developed. This program uses a one-dimensional Fourier series solution in transient temperature distribution analysis, and an analytical stress solution based on shell theory in stress value estimation. This paper presents a simplified and economical calculation method for the axial temperature distribution and stress value in the LMFBR operating transient conditions, and analysis examples obtained with this computer program.
