Notizen: Abstract The influence of different methods of N fertilizer application-sub-surface placement (SS) and broadcast application (BC) as a single basal dose of 40 kg N ha−1 of urea (U) and ammonium sulphate (AS)-on fresh weight (FW) and acetylene reduction activity (ARA) ofAzolla pinnata (Bangkok) and yield of rice was studied for consecutive three seasons. The FW, ARA and N yield ofAzolla were significantly superior with SS placement than with BC application. Of the two N sources, AS was superior to U in recording higher FW, ARA and N yield of Azolla irrespective of methods of N application. Crop yield and crop N uptake were higher with SS application alone and in combination with Azolla as compared to that of surface application of N fertilizers. The combined use of AS and Azolla recorded significantly higher crop yield and crop N uptake than that of U combined with Azolla, irrespective of methods of application.

Notizen: Abstract Cu(II) complexes of acenaphthaquinonemono(4-methylquinolinyl)hydrazone (AMH) of general composition [CuLX2] (whereL=AMH;X=Cl, Br, I, OAc or NO3) with the exception of sulphato complex, where the composition is found to be [CuLSO4]2 have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses, magnetic moment measurements, conductivity measurements, IR, electronic and EPR spectral techniques and by thermal analysis. A planar geometry is indicated for all the complexes. TG curves show one step decomposition of complexes and formation of CU2O at the end of the step.

Notizen: Abstract Application of 0, 30, 60, 90 and 120 kg N ha−1 of urea (U) in split doses with (and without)Azolla pinnata, R. Brown was studied for three consecutive seasons under planted field condition. Fresh weight (FW), acetylene reduction activity (ARA) and N yield of Azolla were found to be maximum 14 days after inoculation (DAI). Among the different treatments, maximum Azolla growth was recorded in no N control. The FW, ARA and N yield of Azolla were inhibited increasingly with the increase in N levels. Irrespective of season, FW and N yield of Azolla were inhibited only a small extent with 90 kg N ha−1 U, beyond which the inhibition was pronounced. ARA was inhibited only slightly up to 60 kg N ha−1 of U. Grain yield and crop N uptake of rice increased significantly up to 90 kg N ha−1 of U (alone or in combination with Azolla) in the dry seasons (variety IR 36) and up to 60 kg N ha−1 U in the wet season (variety CR 1018).

Notizen: Abstract Reaction product cross sections have been measured for reactions of4He projectile with54,56Fe,58Ni and59Co targets in the bombarding energy range 14–27 MeV. The cross-section-weighted average charge $$\overline {\Delta Z}$$ and mass $$\overline {\Delta A}$$ removed from the compound system were deduced and compared with results reported for heavy-ion induced reactions. Variation of $$\overline {\Delta A}$$ with E CN * is independent of the initial angular momentum of compound nucleus in theA=60 mass region in contrary to the rare-earth region. This would suggest a strong angular momentum removal from the compound nucleus by evaporation of particles forA≈60 nuclei. The average evaporated charge $$\overline {\Delta Z}$$ depends on both the CN excitation energy E CN * and the compound nucleusN andZ numbers. The $$\overline {\Delta A}$$ and $$\overline {\Delta Z}$$ dependence on excitation energy and the projectile-target combination can be understood in terms of the statistical model calculations.
