    Notes: The transport scattering and single-particle relaxation times which characterize a two-dimensional electron system have been investigated by using thermal neutron irradiation. The ratios of transport scattering time to single-particle relaxation time are observed to vary from 1.7 to 7.8 depending on the electron density. A decrease in single-particle relaxation time is found while the transport scattering time increases as the electron concentrations increase. These phenomena are relevant to the Hall plateau broadening and enhancement of Shubnikov–de Haas oscillations in such an experiment.

    Notes: White-beam synchrotron-radiation X-ray topographs of the Al62Cu25.5Fe12.5 icosahedral quasicrystal (IQC) have been taken for different specimen orientations. Standard stereographic projection diagrams along the two-, three-, and fivefold zone axes of the IQC have been calculated by the cut-and-projection method. The total structure factor S(g||) has been calculated with the simple lattice model for each reciprocal vector g|| with indices ni* lying in the range −8 ≤ ni* ≤ 8 and reflections with the highest S(g||) values have been selected to simulate the geometric distribution of the Laue spots for a given incident-beam direction. On the basis of standard diagrams of simulated Laue patterns, all the strong diffraction spots have been indexed successfully. For the specific experimental arrangement and the characteristics of the synchrotron-radiation source, the mean intensities of the diffraction spots have been calculated and are in agreement with the experimental ones.

    Notes: Abstract The phase composition, anodic behaviour and semiconducting properties of the anodic film on Pb-6 at % As alloy have been investigated. The linear relationship between i and t −1/2 shows that the anodic film growth is controlled by a diffusion mechanism. The experimental results show that the anodic film contains t-PbO, PbO · PbSO4, 3PbO · PbSO4 and some arsenic compounds. The dielectric constant of the film is 2.8 × 102 obtained from the capacitance-time relationship measured at 2500 Hz. The Mott-Schottky plot shows that the film is an n-type semiconductor. The flat-band potential is −0.56 V vs Hg/Hg2SO4, and the donor density is 7.2 × 1015 cm−3 for the film obtained at 0.9 V vs Hg/Hg2SO4 for 2 h on a Pb-6 at % As electrode.
