On the Stable Silaethene Me2Si=C(SiMe3)(SiMetBu2)tBu2SiF — CLi(SiMe3)2 · 4THF decomposes in diethyl ether in the presence of Me3SiCl at room temperature into a monotetrahydrofuran adduct of Me2Si=C(SiMe3)(SiMetBu2) (3). Pure crystalline 3 is obtained from 3 · THF by removing THF by azeotropic distillation with benzene. It is kinetically stable at ambient temperature and decomposes slowly at 60°C. The 1H and 13C NMR spectrum of the silaethene 3 indicates a rapid intramolecular methyl exchange. 3 reacts with RO — H (R=H, Me, MeCO), Br — H, Br — Br, F — BF2 by insertion into the indicated bonds, with propene, isobutene, acetone by ene reaction, and with butadiene, azides, or methyl vinyl ether by [2 + 4], [2 + 3], or [2 + 2] cycloaddition, respectively.
Notes:
[2 + 2]-Cyclo-addition.
