Notes: Summary Anaesthesia of swine (Sus scrofa domestica) and its breeding varieties (miniature pig) is of increasing importance for research. Endotracheal intubation is particularly difficult because of unusual proportions of the whole skull, above all, of the pharynx. On account of the deviant, stumpy shape of its skull, only the Vietnamese swine (Sus scrofa “familiaris”) can be intubated by means of an instrumentarium as used in man. A special set of intubation instruments facilitates the endotracheal intubation of the common pig (Sus scrofa domestica). The method of intubation, performance of anaesthesia and possible complications are described.
