Notes: We have found a complete thermoelastic intermartensitic transformation between modulated and unmodulated martensite in single-crystal Ni52Mn24.5Ga23.5. This intermartensitic transformation provides a much larger strain than that of the martensitic transformation. A giant switching-like strain of ±5.0% can be achieved by a small magnetic field of 0.2 T upon the intermartensitic transformation. In the modulated martensite, a large recoverable magnetic-field-induced strain of up to 1.2% has been obtained. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Stress-free and two-way thermoelastic shape memory, with 1.2% strain and 6 K temperature hysteresis, has been found in single crystalline Ni52Mn24Ga24. The deformation can be enhanced more than three times, up to 4.0% shrinkage with a bias field 1.2 T applied along the measurement direction, or changed to 1.5% expansion by the 1.2 T applied perpendicular to the measurement direction. For achieving a large deformation, the magnetic field exhibits a more evident contribution than an external stress on this material. These characteristics can be attributed to the low level of internal stress and the preferential orientation of the martensitic variants. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: How to effectively share knowledge within organizations has been given a great deal of attention in practice as well as in research. However, most of current approaches are based on the centralized network structure, e.g. a central knowledge repository, which has been considered inappropriate and ineffective to facilitate the process of knowledge sharing. On the contrary, in this study, we propose the idea of a virtual knowledge sharing community that is based on decentralized P2P technology. In the community, each member plays an equal role of knowledge producing, receiving and coordinating. We believe that decentralized P2P has many distinct advantages in knowledge sharing. Moreover, referring to relevant psychological studies on human motivation, four application features for the virtual knowledge sharing community are further proposed. After being applied, each of the features is believed to have capability of motivating the members of community to share knowledge with each other.

Notes: China Low Activation Martensitic steel (CLAM), which is one of the RAFMs (ReducedActivation Ferritic/Martensitic steels) and under development in ASIPP, is considered as theprimary candidate structural material and LiPb eutectic as both tritium breeder and coolant of theblankets in FDS series fusion reactors. The corrosion behavior of CLAM steel exposed to the liquidbreeder LiPb is of significance. Corrosion tests of CLAM in flowing LiPb at 480°C were performedup to about 2000 hrs to analyze the corrosion mechanism of CLAM exposed to liquid LiPb. Thespecimens were observed and analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and EnergyDispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX) after 500hrs, 1000hrs and 2000hrs corrosion experimentrespectively. The corrosion is of non-uniform and the weight loss was about 0.23 mg/cm2 after 2000hrs’ exposure, which is smaller for CLAM compared to those of other RAFMs

Notes: The forging die material, a high strength steel designated W513 is considered in this paper. A fatigue damage model, based on thermodynamics and continuum damage mechanics, is constructed in which both the previous damage and the loading sequence are considered. The unknown material parameters in the model are identified from low cycle fatigue tests. Damage evolution under multi-level fatigue loading is investigated. The results show that the fatigue life is closely related to the loading sequence. The fatigue life of the materials with low fatigue loadingfirst followed by high fatigue loading is longer than that for the reversed loading sequence

Notes: Abstract  General equations to correlate and predict the thermodynamic properties of hydrated borates were developed based on the experimental results according to their structural types. The thermodynamic properties (ΔH f 0 and ΔG f 0) of a hydrated borate phase are the sum of the contributions of the cations in aqueous solution, the borate polyanions, and the structural water to the corresponding thermodynamic properties. This method is called the group contribution method, and it is extensively used to calculate the thermodynamic properties of many kinds of inorganic compounds, such as silicates and clay minerals.
