Notes: Abstract. The pump-probe response of the metal cluster MoCu3Se4(PPh3)3/CH2Cl2 solution is similar to that of CBS, which implies a nonlinear scattering origin of its nonlinearity. To testify how much the nonlinear scattering contributes to the optical limiting process, we employ a method by inserting a light collection lens in a standard OL experimental setup. Results from such an experiment show that nonlinear scattering is important when the concentration is low. For a high-concentration sample, the nonlinear energy loss is mainly related to thermal induced nonlinear absorption.

Notes: Abstract This paper develops asymptotic properties of singularly perturbed Markov chains with inclusion of absorbing states. It focuses on both unscaled and scaled occupation measures. Under mild conditions, a mean-square estimate is obtained. By averaging the fast components, we obtain an aggregated process. Although the aggregated process itself may be non-Markovian, its weak limit is a Markov chain with much smaller state space. Moreover, a suitably scaled sequence consisting of a component of scaled occupation measures and a component of the aggregated process is shown to converge to a pair of processes with a switching diffusion component.

Notes: Abstract Considerably improved flux pinning and critical current density J c values have been achieved in Y-deficient Y-123 superconductors by directional solidification in air. In comparison with the regular Y-123 composition, Y-deficient one also has an orthorhombic structure and Y-123 main crystal phase remains in it. Whereas with the shortage of Y, Y1−x Ba2Cu3O7−y can be regarded as (YBa2Cu3)1−x O7−t(Ba2Cu3) x O t−y or (YBa2Cu3O7−z )(□ x YO z−y ), so there may develop several kinds of microstructure defects as pinning sites in the system, such as highly dense, fine-scale, and faultlike defects, as well as localized superstructure, which are able to induce the increasing in flux pinning and J c values in higher external magnetic fields. This kind of simple nonstoichiometric route could lead to a commercial technique for flux-pinning enhancement in Y-123 bulk materials.
