Notes: Abstract Substance P was examined for sneeze-inducing activity and its involvement of sneeze responses in experimental allergic rhinitis. Substance P, dripped into a nostril of guinea pigs, at concentrations of 100 pM and above induced sneezing in a dose-dependent fashion. The activity of substance P was not affected by the previous subcutaneous injections of capsaicin that depleted substance P in nerve fibers. Histamine induced sneezing at concentrations of 30 mM and above and the activity was reduced by capsaicin treatment. The frequency of antigen-induced sneezing was proportional to the substance P content in nasal mucosa of sensitized guinea pigs treated with increasing doses of capsaicin; correlation coefficient 0.91. These results suggest that substance P plays an important role as a stimulator of sneeze responses in experimental allergic rhinitis in guinea pigs.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The differential pulse-polarographic determination of cobalt in the ppb-region after extraction of cobalt(III)-1-nitroso-2-naphthol chelate from citrate buffer solution (pH 5) into benzene is described. The cobalt(III) chelate is determined in a electrolysis solution composed of a 1∶1 mixture of the extract and acetonitrile solution containing 8 mmol/l perchloric acid and 0.2 mol/l sodium perchlorate. A well-developed reduction wave of the ligand in the cobalt(III) chelate is obtained. The limit of determination is in the range of 1–2 ppb of cobalt.

Notes: Abstract The impact parameter dependence of the emission of quasimolecular radiation and of quasiresonantK−K transfer has been investigated for collisions of 462 MeV Kr35+−Mo solid target. The results are compared with calculations based on the MO model for the radiative decay of 1sσ vacancies and nonradiative couplings of the 1sσ and 2pσ level. The data are discussed with special emphasis of the influence of the solid target. Furthermore the possible influence of nuclear reactions on the MO-spectrum is considered.

Notes: Abstract We have measured the target thickness dependence ofK-vacancy production probabilities and total cross sections for 40.6 MeV Ar ions hitting Ca and Cu targets. The probabilities were measured as a function of the scattering angle between 0.13° and 1.4° by means of aK x-ray-particle coincidence. By integrating the measured probabilities over the impact parameter a significantly lower total cross section was obtained than the directly measured value. The maximum seen in the impact parameter dependent probability varies with decreasing target thickness towards the results obtained with molecular and atomic gas targets. From these observations a multiple collisionL-vacancy process prior to 2pπ-2pσ rational coupling is concluded.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary A copper(II) oxide loaded resin was prepared by treating Cu(II)-form ion-exchange resin (Dowex 50W-X4) with a hot alkaline solution. The column packed with the resulting black resin was stable in the pH range of 5.5–9.6 and suited for conversion of free EDTA to the equivalent amount of Cu(II)-EDTA chelate. The copper in the effluent was determined spectrophotometrically as the diethyldithiocarbamate and thus EDTA in 10−5 M level was indirectly determined. The method was applied to the decomposition of metal-EDTA complexes on a H-form resin column (Dowex 50W-X8). The complexes of Ca(II), Mg(II), Cu(II), Pb(II), Hg(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Cd(II) and Zn(II) were effectively decomposed on the column even in the presence of a 100-fold amount of each metal ion. At a pH lower than 3, the liberated EDTA was fixed on the resin, but it was recovered quantitatively by washing with water. The recovery of EDTA from the Fe(III) complex was only several percent.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary The pulse-polarographic behaviour of tributyltin chloride (TBTC) and dibutyltin dichloride (DBTC) in ethanol-water mixtures has been studied. The effects of temperature, pH, modulation amplitude, solvent and supporting electrolyte compositions were investigated. The reduction processes are complicated and pH-dependent. DBTC gave one reversible reduction wave and TBTC showed a quasi-reversible one and also several irreversible waves. Both the organotin compounds in the concentration of 10−7 mol/l were determined by differential pulse polarography. The method was successfully applied to the analysis of commercially available fishing nets. Detection limits were 2.2×10−7 and 6.2×10−8 mol/l for TBTC and DBTC, respectively.
6,2 · 10−8 mol/l (DBTC).
