    Notes: Abstract. For general elliptic pseudodifferential operators on manifolds with singular points, we prove an algebraic index formula. In this formula the symbolic contributions from the interior and from the singular points are explicitly singled out. For two-dimensional manifolds, the interior contribution is reduced to the Atiyah-Singer integral over the cosphere bundle while two additional terms arise. The first of the two is one half of the “eta” invariant associated to the conormal symbol of the operator at singular points. The second term is also completely determined by the conormal symbol. The example of the Cauchy-Riemann operator on the complex plane shows that all the three terms may be nonzero. Moreover, we introduce a natural symmetry condition for a pseudodifferential operator on a manifold with cylindrical ends ensuring that the operator admits a doubling across the boundary. For such operators we prove an explicit index formula containing, apart from the Atiyah-Singer integral, a finite number of residues of the logarithmic derivative of the conormal symbol.

    Notes: Abstract We introduce the algebra of smoothing Mellin and Green symbols in a pseudodifferential calculus for manifolds with edges. In addition, we define scales of weighted Sobolev spaces with asymptotics based on the Mellin transform and analyze the mapping properties of the operators on these spaces. This will allow us to obtain complete information on the regularity and asymptotics of solutions to elliptic equations on these spaces.

    Notes: Abstract This paper reviews the current state of the debate on the relationship between mental disorder and violent behaviour. Starting from the discussion of methodological approaches to assessing a possible association, the most important studies carried out on the issue in recent years are discussed. Their results concur in supporting the assumption that there is a moderate but reliable association between mental disorder and violence. However, this does not imply that people with mental illness are generally more likely to commit violent acts than members of the general population. An elevated risk of violent behaviour is only evident for specific psychiatric diagnoses and symptom constellations. For schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, a significant increase in the likelihood to commit violent acts is reported. Substance use disorders and antisocial personality disorder, however, represent a markedly higher risk for violent behaviour. The article further discusses possible determinants of violent behaviour such as psychotic symptoms and comorbidity with substance abuse and considers who is at particular risk of becoming a target of violent acts.

    Description / Table of Contents: The mechanical properties of polycristalline materials are depent on the type, the combination and the orientation of the elements in the micro structure. By means of the method of Visioplasticity assumptions are currently realized to analyse kinematic parameters inside of single grains and grain groups. Strength of the free surface of the specimen will be rough by its plastical deformation, it was difficult to register the increments of deformation of the grid. By further development of a method of picture analysis it is also possible to reproduce a 3d-surface by utilization of single light microscopical pictures.
    Notes: Die mechanischen Eigenschaften polykristalliner Werkstoffe sind von der Art der Mikrostrukturelemente, deren Zusammenwirken und Orientierung hauptsächlich abhängig. Mittels der Methode der Visioplastizität werden gegenwärtig Voraussetzungen geschaffen, die die Analyse kinematischer Feldkenngrößen innerhalb einzelner Strukturelemente (Kristallite) und Strukturverbände gestattet. Aufgrund der verformungsbedingten Aufrauhung der freien Probenoberfläche traten Probleme bei der Aufnahme der Rasterverformungen auf. Über die Weiterentwicklung eines Verfahrens der Bildverarbeitung wurde es möglich, 3D-Oberflächenstrukturen anhand der Auswertung lichtmikroskopischer Einzelbildaufnahmen abzubilden.

    Notes: Synthesis of Spirocyclic Isothiazolium Salts and their Base Catalysed Reaction to ThianthrenesN-Phenyl-substituted isothiazolium salts 1 with active 7-methylene group react under the influence of bases to the spirocyclic isothiazolium salts rac-cis- and rac-trans-4; the salts trans-4 are not stable and react to the thianthrene derivatives rac-trans-6. Thus, a very simple separation of diastereoisomeric salts rac-cis- and rac-trans-4 is possible. The influence of donor and acceptor substituents in the phenyl group of 1 on the diastereoselective synthesis of 4 and 6 was studied. The structure of rac-cis-4 and rac-trans-6 was confirmed by X-ray analysis.
