Notizen: Abstract The complexation of zinc(II) with chloride, bromide and iodide ions has been studied by calorimetry in hexamethylphosphoric triamide (HMPA) containing 0.1 mol-dm−3 (n-C4H9)4NClO4 as a constant ionic medium at 25°C. The formation of [ZnXn](2−n)+ (n=1,2,3,4 for X=Cl; n=1,2 for X=Br, I) is revealed, and their formation constants, enthalpies and entropies were determined. It is proposed that the zinc(II) ion is fourcoordinated in HMPA and the coordinating HMPA molecules are stepwise replaced with halide ions to form [ZnXn(hmpa)4−n](2−n)+ (n=1−4), as is the case for the cobalt(II) ion. Furthermore, the formation of [ZnClI], [ZnBrI], [ZnBrCl] and [ZnBrCl2]− is revealed in the relevant ternary systems. It is found that the affinity of a given halide ion X− to [ZnCl]+, [ZnBr]+ and [Znl]+ is practically the same.

Notizen: Abstract The P-glycoprotein (P-Gp) encoded by the human multidrug-resistance gene MDR1 has been suggested to play certain roles in the blood-brain barrier (BBB). However, the detailed mechanism of the activity of P-Gp in multidrug-resistance (MDR) remains unclear in human glioma. We examined the localization of P-Gp in human glioma by immunohistochemical (IHC) and immunoelectron microscopic (IEM) methods with anti P-Gp monoclonal antibodies (C219, MRK16). We also examined MDR1 expression in primary glioma and xenografts by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) with human MDR1-specific primers. The IHC study showed no P-Gp expression on tumour cells but it was present on capillary endothelial cells and IEM analysis showed definitive localization on their luminal surface. MDR1 gene expression was detected in eight primary glioma and three normal brain specimens by RT-PCR, but not in glioma xenografts. The lack of MDR1 expression in these cells appears to be a consequence of the replacement of the original human stroma, including blood vessels, by murine stroma in glioma xenografts. The unique distribution of P-Gp on the capillary blood vessels was confirmed in human glioma by the results of immunohistochemical and molecular biological studies.

Notizen: Formation of SiO2-B2O3 gel fibers and oxides was investigated by the sol-gel method using tetraacetoxysilane (TAS) and boron tri-n-butoxide (BTB). Low molecular weight borosiloxanes (BS) were formed by the reaction of TAS with BTB in THF. Partial alkoxylation and hydrolysis of BS followed by further condensation of the resulting polymer (PBS) solutions led to the formation of highly polymerized polyborosiloxanes (HPBS) with good spinnability. Gel fibers were obtained by dry spinning of HPBS. The compositions of PBS and gels were not consistent with that in feed. Heat treatment of the gels, however, provided SiO2-B2O3 oxides with compositions almost compatible with those of the gels. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notizen: Through the oxygen exposure experiments on 3d transition metals (Cr, Fe, Co and Ni) and rare earth (Tb), we studied the initial oxidation by means of Auger peak-to-peak height (APPH) method. Based on the results obtained, a simple technique using the ratio of APPH was applied to the Auger depth profile analysis of magneto-optical disk (MOD). It was clearly indicated that the preferential oxidation of Tb occurred only at the lower interface between the TbFeCo and metal-oxide layers, and this technique can be used to obtain the chemical information about the interface oxidation in Auger depth profiling.
