    Notes: Abstract LetB be a Boolean ring (with 1),S a sheaf of sets on the Stone space Spec(B), andS the set of global sections of S. For everya εB ands, t εS, leta(s, t) denote the element ofS which agrees withs on the support ofa, and witht elsewhere. We set down identities satisfied by this ternary operationB×S×S→S (involving also the Boolean operations ofB). For a fixed Boolean ringB, we call a setS given with a ternary operation satisfying these identities aBset. The above construction is shown to give a functorial equivalence between sheaves of setsS on Spec(B) with nonempty sets of global sections, and nonemptyB-setsS. For any setA, the bounded Boolean powerA[B]* is the freeB-set onA. The varieties ofB-sets, asB ranges over all Boolean rings, constitute (together with one trivial variety) the least nontrivial hypervariety of algebras, in the sense of W. Taylor.

    Notes: Abstract Trichothecene mycotoxins were produced byFusarium sporotrichioides DAOM 197255 isolated from a spruce budworm cadaver. An extract from the culture filtrate containing these metabolites was toxic to budworm when ingested at concentrations as low as 10 ppm in diet, and survivors were predisposed to infection with a fungal entomopathogen. The possible role of these metabolites in the balsam fir-spruce budworm habitat is discussed.

    Notes: (Perfluoroalkyl)(dimethylamino)sulfonium HexafluoroarsenatesMeN = S(CF3)2 (5) is alkylated by Me3O⊕ AsF⊖6 to Me2N-S(CF3)⊕2 AsF⊖6 (4). From 5 and MeOSO⊕ AsF⊖6 (6) MeOS(O)-N(Me)S(CF3)⊕2 AsF⊖6 (7) is formed as a relatively stable primary product. Decomposition of 7 gives the expected 4 only in poor yield. Nucleophilic substitution of the sulfur-bonded fluorine in CF3SF⊕2 AsF⊖6 (8) by Me3SiNMe2 yields CF3S(NMe2)⊕2 AsF⊖6 (9). Similarly, (CF3)2CFSF⊕2 AsF⊖6 (10) reacts with dimethyl(trimethylsilyl)amine to give (CF3)2CFS(NMe2)⊕2 AsF⊖6 (11). The structures of 4 and 9 are elucidated by X-ray analyses, and the influence of the substituents on the bonding is discussed.

From isopropylbenzene and the dehalogenation products of (diisobutylamino)difluoroborane the ethenodiborolodiborol system 2 was isolated. When bis(diisopropylamino)phenylborane is treated with F2BN(i-C3H7)2 and Na/K alloy the diborane(4) derivative 5 and 1,1,2,2-tetrakisborylethane (6) are formed together with bis(diisopropylamino)fluoroborane (7). NMR (1, 11B, 13C, 19F) and MS data are given; for 1, 2, 5, and 6 the X-ray structure analyses were performed.

NMR (1H, 11B, 13C, 15N, 29Si), mass spectra and the results of the X-ray analysis of 21 are reported and discussed. The 11B chemical shifts have been calculated for 3-phenyl-1,2,4,3-thiadiazaboretidine and some related model compounds by the IGLO method and correlate acceptably with the experimental values.
