    Notes: The phenomenon of electrical degradation in ZnO varistors was studied by application of high-intensity current pulses. A wave shape of 8×20 μs and rectangular waves of 1 and 2 ms were used. The degradation was estimated by reference electric-field variation and by Schottky voltage barrier deformation. The results showed that current pulses reduce both the height and the width of the barrier voltage. It was also observed that the donor density Nd did not change but the surface states density Ns decreased with degradation.

    Notes: Summary Cervical pregnancy is one of the most dangerous forms of ectopic pregnancy. This condition is frequently unsuspected before evaluation of the uterus and it is characterized by massive bleeding during that procedure. We report a case of cervical ectopic pregnancy diagnosed by ultrasound at 11 weeks’ gestation and managed by emergency hysterectomy for severe hemorrhage occurring immediately after removal of the placenta.

    Notes: Abstract The purpose of this review is to establish the incidence and the clinical and radiological characteristics of the massive lupus-induced pulmonary haemorrhage in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). In 104 cases of SLE, 4 patients were diagnosed with pulmonary haemorrhage and they all fulfilled the following criteria: (1) rapidly progressing bilateral airspace consolidation; (2) a sudden decrease in the haemotocrit with a cough that produced bloody sputum and/or histiocytes with haemosiderin-laden macrophages in sputum or in the material from the bronchoalveorar washing.

Activation energy measurements during the degradation process showed that these phenomena are associated with diffusion and that the diffusion-controlling species are slower than Zn., For degradation promoted by current pulses of 8×20 μs, the Schottky potential barrier deformation was measured. A decrease in height and width of the potential barrier due to the reduction of surface states density,N s, without a significant change in donor density,N d, was observed. To explain these results, a modification of the unstable components model is proposed for the potential barrier in which the degradation is due to oxi-reduction reactions between atomic defects. These reactions promote the elimination of zinc vacancies and/or adsorbed oxygen on the grain boundaries.

    Notes: Summary Bone affectation in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is caused both by the disease itself and by the treatment used. We report the case of a woman diagnosed of SLE, who, in the course of her illness, develops multiple aseptic osteonecrosis (AON) and laminar periostitis, radiologically compatible with the diagnosis of hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (HOA), with no evidence of acropaquia. In this case, the patient shows all the risk factors involved in the pathogenesis of the development of ischemia in bone microcirculation.
