    Notes: The contour dynamics numerical technique is used to study the coalescence of two equal uniform vortices in the presence of an externally applied stretching strain field. Plane three-dimensional stretching is found to substantially inhibit vortex coalescence when the plane of the vortex axes is initially perpendicular to the plane of the straining motion. This behavior is interpreted qualitatively in terms of a purely two-dimensional flow fully equivalent to the stretching configuration.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Um die Anwendungsmöglichkeiten von IR-Sensoren im Außenklima beurteilen zu können, ist eine detaillierte Kenntnis der langwelligen atmosphärischen Strahlung not-wendig. Zu diesem Zweck ist ein Radiometer entwickelt worden, das den Himmel abtastet. Das Radiometer mißt die Strahldichte von 59 Elementen in 4 Wellenbereichen in 3 Minuten. Weil eine interne Kalibration stattfindet, sind keine weiteren Referenzkörper notwendig. Einige illustrative Beispiele der richtungsabhängigen Strahldichte werden in zwei Wellenbereichen, d.h. λ 〉 3 μm und 8 〈 λ 〈 14 μm gezeigt.
    Notes: Summary To study the applicability of IR-sensors in an outdoor environment detailed knowledge in needed about the atmospheric longwave radiance. For this purpose an IR-scanning radiometer has been developed, able to measure the IR-radiance of the sky-hemisphere. The sensor measures the radiance of 59 sample elements in four wavelength bands in 3 minutes. Due to inside calibration no external reference sources are needed. Illustrative examples of the angular radiance distribution are given for two wavelengths bands, i.e. λ 〉 3 μm and 8 〈 λ 〈 14 μm.

    Notes: Summary For a three-dimensional block-shaped object, placed in the open field an experimental relation was found between the convective heat-exchange coefficienth for the different surfaces and the free windspeed ν. This relation which holds for a horizontal as well as for a vertical surface is of the formh = b(ν) m ;b andm determined by experiment. Also the dependence of the convective heat exchange coefficienth on wind directionϕ tv was determined for the different orientated surfaces.

    Notes: Summary A new series of 96 pedigrees with the fra(X) syndrome was analysed using complex segregation analysis with pointers, defining affection as any degree of mental impairment. These families were found to exhibit the same segregation pattern as the first series of 110 pedigrees (Sherman et al. 1984). The best estimate for penetrance of mental impairment in males was 79% and in females was 35% for the combined data. Again, there was little evidence for sporadic cases among affected males. Many more intellectually normal transmitting males have been observed since the existence of such males and the concomitant need to investigate the paternal side of pedigrees was recognized. On further investigation of all 206 pedigrees from the old and new data sets, the sibships of nonexpressing males appeared to be different from those of expressing males. Our analysis, using mental impairment as the phenotype, suggested that obligate carrier mothers and daughters of intellectually normal transmitting males are rarely, if ever, mentally impaired and that the sibs of transmitting males are much less likely to be retarded than the sibs of mentally impaired males. Though mothers and daughters of transmitting males are similar in phenotype, the expression of the gene in their offspring appears to be different: the penetrance of mental impairment is higher in offspring of intellectually normal daughters of transmitting males than in offspring of intellectually normal mothers of transmitting males. The implications of these observations for genetic counseling and for genetic models of the fra(X) syndrome are discussed.

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé On a effectué une étude thermogravimétrique comparée de la désammoniation de NH4-mordénite, NH4-chabazite et NH4-stilbite, dans des atmosphères oxydantes et inertes. Les résultats permettent de supposer qu'en atmosphère d'oxygène il se produit une oxydation intracristalline des cations du réseau d'ammonium thermiquement excités. Cette réaction s'effectue à des températures bien plus faibles que dans une atmosphère inerte et, par conséquent, conduit à une séparation bien plus distincte du processus de déshydroxylation et de désammoniation. En raison des conditions hydrothermiques qui résultent de la formation d'eau pendant la désammoniation, certains changements de structure de la forme hydrogénée de la chabazite et de la stilbite ont lieu et sont révélés par les changements du comportement de déshydroxylation.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Es wurde eine vergleichende thermogravimetrische Untersuchung der Deammonisierung von NH4-Mordenit, NH4-Chabasit und NH4-Stilbit ausgeführt. Aus dem Verlauf der TG-Kurven kann geschlossen werden, da\ in O2-AtmosphÄre eine intrakristalline Oxydation thermisch angeregter Ammonium-Gitterkationen erfolgt. Diese Reaktion verlÄuft bei wesentlich niedrigeren Temperaturen als die thermische Deammonisierung in inerter AtmosphÄre und führt damit zu einer besseren Trennung von Deammonisierung und Dehydroxylierung. Unter den durch die Bildung von Wasser wÄhrend der oxydativen Deammonisierung gegebenen hydrothermalen Bedingungen gehen — im Falle von Chabasit und Stilbit — gewisse strukturelle VerÄnderungen der H-Form vor sich, die sich in einem unterschiedlichen Dehydroxylierungsverhalten zu erkennen geben.
    Notes: Abstract A comparative thermogravimetric study of the deammoniation of NH4-mordenite, NH4-chabazite, and NH4-stilbite in oxidizing and inert atmosphere has been carried out. The results suggest that in oxygen atmosphere an intracrystalline oxidation of thermally-excited ammonium lattice cations occurs. This reaction proceeds at much lower temperatures than the thermal deammoniation in an inert atmosphere and consequently results in a much better separation of the dehydroxylation process from the deammoniation. Because of the hydrothermal conditions resulting from the formation of water during the oxidizing deammoniation, certain structural changes of the hydrogen form of chabazite and stilbite occur as revealed by changes of the dehydroxylation behaviour.

    Notes: Abstract The method of loading sodium clusters in zeolites, consisting of the controlled thermal decomposition of physisorbed sodium azide, is discussed. The influence of the azide loading, the azide decomposition rate and the sintering process on the amount of ionic and metallic sodium clusters in zeolite Y was followed by ESR. The method is compared to other metal deposition techniques.
