Notes: Abstract Positron lines were observed in heavy ion-atom collisions at bombarding energies close to the Coulomb barrier in subcritical systems with the sum of the atomic numbers of the colliding nucleiZ u =Z 1+Z 2 being smaller thanZ u =172. Each collision system, studied,208Pb +208Pb(Zu=164),238U+181Ta(Zu=165), and238Au(Zu=171), exhibits the emission of two positron lines withZ u -independent c.m. energies of ∼ 258 keV and ∼ 340 keV, and with widths of about 30 keV, superimposed on continuous positron spectra from nuclear pair decay and pair emission induced by the time changing Coulomb field of the collision. The production cross section of thee +-lines rises with a high power ofZ u (ocZ u 22), which is comparable to theZ u 20-dependence for the collision induced positrons.

Notes: Abstract Following a suggestion of Bang et al. we deduce that the total energy transfer associated with the narrow positron lines observed in heavy-ion collisions is given approximately by the sum of the rest masses of the positron and the accompanied electron plus their kinetic energies. Since the same behaviour has been established previously for the production process of the dynamically induced positrons, our observation represents a strong hint that the origin of the e+ -lines may also be connected with the strong Coulomb field occuring in heavy-ion collisions.

Notes: Abstract The time-differential attenuation coefficients for randomly fluctuating interactions in isotropic systems are shown to be of the simple exponential type (well known from the first order treatment of Abragam and Pound) fort≫Τ c , notwithstanding the strength of 〈Ω2〉1/2Τ c . Explicit expressions for the relaxation constant are given which are strongly dependent on the strength of 〈Ω2〉1/2Τ c and on the type of interaction but prove to be virtually independent of the stochastic model assumptions.

Notes: Summary When mungbean landraces from East Java were intercropped with maize, genetic variation for grain yield was observed. Three cycles of selection resulted in a yield increase of 24% as compared to the original landraces. The yield of the maize component in the mixture was not affected by the increase of the mungbean yield.

Notes: Summary The possibility of testing mungbean for grain yield in monoculture in single wide-spaced row plots as an alternative to selection in intercropping with maize was investigated. Results indicated no significant genotype x planting pattern interactions and genetic correlation coefficients between grain yields in the two planting patterns were, in most cases, close to unity. It was concluded that, as far as the mungbean component in the mixture is concerned, yield selection in either of the two planting patterns is justified. Effects of single-plant and progeny selection on mungbean characteristics were also studied empirically. Lines derived from single-plant selection in monocropping or intercropping showed differences in yield, number of pods per plant and seed weight. Except for seed weight, no differential effects of progeny selection in monoculture or intercropping were observed for any characteristic.

Notes: Abstract Impact parameter dependentK x-ray emission from both collision partners in208Pb+26 →120Sn and Xe collisions at 3,6 MeV/N projectile has been investigated. In solid target collisions the Sn-K emission yield shows impact parameter dependent structures. These structures are interpreted in terms of post-collisional capture processes. TheK x-ray emission from the heavier collision partner related to the 1s σ vacancy production, is found to be dependent on the primary projectile outer-shell configuration.

Notes: Abstract A stochastic model is described which simulates the hyperfine interaction in highly stripped light ions. The coupling of the electrons to the nucleus is of the fluctuating type during the deexcitation process of the electron shell and of the static type for electrons in the ground state. In the limit of very fast deexcitation the time-differential attenuation coefficients of the perturbed angular correlation are essentially those of the static ground-state coupling with a phase shift and a reduction of the amplitude imposed.
