Notes: Abstract High-spin states in179Re have been populated by the165Ho(18O, 4n) and170Er(14N,5n) reactions. A level scheme is constructed from the studies ofγγ-coincidences using anti-Compton spectrometer arrays. The previously known 5/2+[402], 1/2− [541] and 9/2− [514] bands have been extended to 35/2+, 45/2− and 39/2−, respectively. In addition a 1/2+ [660] band, a three-quasiparticle band and two isomers were established. Furthermore several level sequences were identified decaying into the 5/2+ [402] and 1/2− [541] bands. This allowed to determine the excitation energy of the 9/2− member of the latter band. The band crossing features of the bands have been explained as the rotation alignment of ani 13/2 quasineutron pair taking into account shape changes.

Notes: Abstract A computer-controlled diode laser spectrometer for the 1200 to 2500 cm−1 spectral region is described. The spectrometer has been applied to high resolution spectroscopy of the NCO radical at 5.2 μm. The lead-salt diode lasers are cooled to their operating temperature with a temperature adjustable helium evaporation cryostat. Computer-controlled tuning procedures for the frequency tuning of the diode lasers have been developed; they are independent of tables describing the tuning characteristics of the diode lasers. 41 lines of the antisymmetric stretching-vibrationv 3 of the linear NCO radical have been observed. We were able to detect vibration-rotation transitions in both2 π 1/2 and2 π 3/2 fine structure sublevels. These measurements led to the precise determination of additional molecular constants.

Notes: Abstract Frequency stabilization of the CO laser using a CO lamb-dip is achieved in the range from 5.0–6.3 μm. The CO saturation signal is obtained from a low-pressure discharge in absorption and is detected using optogalvanic, detection. The frequency stability and reproducibility has been verified to be better than 100 kHz; this is an improvement of more than one order of magnitude compared with locking techniques using CO laser gain profiles.
