    Notes: This paper describes the effect of stress relaxation on the polarization of InGaAsP buried heterostructure lasers by means of a repetitive temperature change. We examine the change in the polarization ratio, TE mode power to TM mode power, under the repetitive temperature change. We find that the polarization ratio increases significantly for some lasers. This may be attributable to the relaxation of an external stress caused by bonding of the laser chip.

    Notes: Abstract The mechanism for the formation of zircon from a system of Si(OC2H5)4-ZrOCl2 · 8H2O-C2H5OH solution was constituted from the following steps; the formation of sol composed of an equimolar Zr4+ located in the neighbourhood of a linear siloxane polymer, deposition of metastable fine (tetragonal) T-ZrO2 by heating, the tetragonal to monoclinic (T → M) transformation of the fine T-ZrO2 aggregates separated from the strain energy of grain boundary between two oxide components, the initiation of the interface reaction between T-ZrO2 and amorphous SiO2, and the acceleration of the formation by the Hedvall effect caused by the crystallization of SiO2. The key technology for the symhesix of zircon from the oxide components ZrO2 and SiO2 was the mechanochemina! activation of the surface layer by milling, the formation of transition phase between the two componems by adding the guest element, and the presentation of metamorphic surface state. Zircon dissociated into M-ZrO2 and SiO2 glass, and the dissociation temperature was expected to be above 1700° C, which required the correction of the phase diagram for ZrO2-SiO2 system used previously.

    Notes: Abstract An ESR spectroscopic study of adsorbed NO on CaHY-type zeolite was carried out and the kinetics are discussed on the basis of a mechanistic model of the disproportionation reaction. An amount of NO less than the amount of Ca2+ distributed in Site II of the faujasite structure was admitted onto the sample maintained at 373 K. ESR spectra were recorded at room temperature. The spectra consisted of well-resolved signals. It is proposed that NO molecules on CaHY-type zeolite have two kinds of adsorption patterns. The initial formation of N2O may be expressed by the following reactions: $$[ ] + NO\mathop \rightleftharpoons \limits_{}^{K_1 } [NO],[NO] + NO\mathop \rightleftarrows \limits_{\overset{\lower0.5em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle\leftharpoonup}$}} {k} _2 }^{\overset{\lower0.5em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle\rightharpoonup}$}} {K} _2 } [N_2 O_2 ],[N_2 O_2 ] + NO\mathop \to \limits_{}^{\overset{\lower0.5em\hbox{$\smash{\scriptscriptstyle\rightharpoonup}$}} {K} _3 } [NO_2 ] + N_2 O,$$ where [], [NO] and [N2O2] denote vacant adsorption, NO adsorption, and N2O2 adsorption sites, respectively. The rate equation was used to explain the kinetic results of the disproportionation of NO.

    Notes: Abstract Infrared spectra produced by adsorbing, by evacuating and by readsorbing NO on CaHY-type zeolite were examined. The absorption peaks were identified by comparing the spectra produced by adsorbing and by evacuating N2O and NO2. Based upon the experimental evidence, an eight-step mechanism was proposed for the behavior of NO on CaHY-type zeolite. A mechanistic model of the disproportionation reaction of NO was deduced from the variation of the spectra with time.
