Summary Gelation of syndiotacticity-rich poly(vinyl alcohol)-phenol-water mitxture is studied. The gels were transparent differing from aqueous gels which were turbid. For the same degree of polymerization and concentration the melting point of the gel increased with increasing syndiotacticity. The dimension of a crosslink also increased with increasing syndiotacticity. The instability of the solution of syndiotactic poly(vinyl alcohol) is discussed.
