Notes: [Auszug] Novel capsomeric complexes, pentamers and hexamers were detected as chemical entities in phage Qβ. Both were composed of identical protein subunits and stabilized by intermodular disulphide bonds. Their numbers per particle were about 12 for pentamers and about 20 for hexamers—consistent ...

Notes: Abstract Preference for ethanol in rats, overcoming the problem of a position habit, was assessed in a one-lever and two-liquid chamber. Performance in lever pressing for ethanol of different concentrations (2.5%, 5.0%, and 15.0%) and for water, as well as the amount of liquid intake, were recorded. Evidence of ethanol preference was observed by both the lever press and consumption measures when the concentration was 2.5%. Water preference was evident at higher concentrations. The present method proved to be a useful method for studying ethanol preference in rats.

Notes: Summary The renal excretory mechanism of an orally active inhibitor of angiotensin converting enzyme (SA-446) was examined in anesthetized dogs. Parenteral administration of this compound resulted in production of constant levels of about 2 mg/l in the plasma (PSA) and the urine concentration was 726±200 mg/l, a level significantly higher than that in the plasma. Renal clearance of SA-446 (CSA) was 2.24±0.34 ml/g·min and was significantly higher than GFR. The clearance ratio (CSA/GFR) of over 1.0 was indicative of a net tubular secretion. Administration of probenecid resulted in a significant rise in PSA and in a significant decrease in urinary excretion but with no change in the plasma protein binding ratio. CSA decreased significantly from 2.24±0.34 to 0.71±0.14 ml/g·min. The inhibotory action of SA-446 (0.02 mg/kg, i.v.) on the pressor response to angiotensin I disappeared at about 50 min, this action being maintained for about 2 h in the probenecid pretreated dog. Since probenecid is a competitive inhibitor of organic anion secretory transport, our results show the net tubular secretion of SA-446, via organic anion transport systems. Prolongation of the action of SA-446, as induced by probenecid may be due to the increase of plasma concentration, by the inhibition of tubular secretion.

Notes: Abstract Hadron jet at lowp T is generated by Monte Carlo method using several models including our quark cascade model in which the recombination mechanism is taken into account. The predicted results from those models on π+/π− ratio,K + /K − ratio, π± meson spectra and π+/π− ratio under π± meson and Λ particle trigger, ratio between invariant two particle cross-section (p→π + /π − )/(p→π − /π − are compared with the experimental data. The effects of the asymmetric initialu- andd-quark distributions the scaling and its violation of particle spectra and particle ratios under the other particle trigger are discussed. Predictions from our recombination model fit to the experimental data fairly well.

Notes: Abstract The similarity and difference between our quark cascade model with recombination mechanism and Van Hove's quark fragmentation-recombination model are discussed. Van Hove's fragmentation-recombination model is extended to the model which describesx-dependence of the hadron spectra as well as the baryon multiplicities by using our diffusion equation. The recombination probability in Van Hove's model can be related with the recombination factor λ′ in our diffusion equation. Thex-dependence of the hadron spectra causes another restriction on the recombination probability in Van Hove's model. The inclusive spectra of mesons, proton andΔ ++ in proton fragmentation and baryon multiplicities except∑ − multiplicity are explained by both our model with recombination mechanism and the model with recombination mechanism a la Van Hove. But the ration(∑ −)/n(∑ +;) may not be explained by naive quark-parton model with recombination mechanism without considering quark spin.

Notes: The persistence length of lugworm cuticle collagen in 0.1M acetic acid was evaluated as 1600 ∼ 1800 Å by Yamakawa-Fujii's model for a wormlike chain from the sedimentation constant and the intrinsic viscosity. The persistence length was further examined for a series of sample “collagen sonicates” produced by varying the duration of sonic irradiation. To estimate the salt effect on the persistence length, measurements were made over a range of NaCl concentrations from 0 to 0.1M. The results showed that the cuticle collagen and collagen sonicates had identical values of persistence length and that the neutral salt effect for the cuticle collagen was far smaller than that for DNA.

Notes: To investigate the solution properties of polyethylene, which has the simplest structure of the vinyl polymers, experiments were made with a magnetically suspended equilibrium ultracentrifuge. Preliminary studies were carried out with a polystyrene-chloroform system at 25°C. and a polystyrene-methylcyclohexane system at 68°C. (which is close to the theta temperature) in order to check the difficulties involved in the flotation equilibrium in the former case and the high temperature measurement in the latter. However, no trouble was encountered in either system, and the results were discussed and compared with earlier results for polystyrene solutions. It was found that chloroform is a good solvent for polystyrene, and the measured weight-average molecular weight is somewhat smaller than the value obtained in a theta solvent. After overcoming some technical difficulties involved in studies at higher temperatures, we carried out experiments on polyethylene in α-chloronaphthalene at 130°C. The results are considered reasonable by comparison with results obtained by other methods. The sample employed, Marlex 50 of melt index 0.7, has a wide molecular weight distribution: i.e., Mz/Mw = 5.2 and Mz+1/Mz = 2.4.
