Notes: Abstract The effects of apomorphine upon stereotype and bromocriptine upon wheel running and intracranial reward were examined across the estrous cycle of female rats. Apomorphine elicited stereotypy in a dose-related fashion, but stereotypy was not reliably or systematically altered by estrous conditions. On the other hand, wheel running was augmented by bromocriptine in an estrous-specific fashion. Self-stimulation was increased by bromocriptine but this was not related to estrous cyclicity. These findings provide evidence for possible behavioral and motivational specificity of dopamine (DA) receptor-related estrous changes.

Notes: Summary Units were recorded extracellulary in the cat brainstem under the effect of tremogenic doses of harmaline. They were localized post mortem and the units discharging at the harmaline tremor frequency were mapped. Harmaline-sensitive neurons were found in the bulbo-pontine reticular formation, in particular, in the lateral reticular nucleus and the nucleus reticularis tegmenti pontis. The nucleus interpositus as well as the red nucleus also displayed numerous units discharging at the tremor frequency, indicating that the cerebello-interposito-rubro-spinal system controlling the flexor muscles participate in harmaline tremor. Participation of the oculomotor system in the harmaline-induced tremor was tested at the level of the vestibular neurons relaying the vestibulo-ocular reflex, the motoneurons, the eye muscles and the eye movements. No rhythmic discharge at the tremor frequency nor eye movements could be detected, indicating that harmaline tremor does not affect the oculomotor system.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary An unusual blood vessel in the cochlea of a patient is reported. The blood vessel derives from the osseous lamina spiralis and crosses straight through the scala tympani toward the lateral wall of the perilymphatic duct. In its course a branch derives from this vessel toward the other spiral vessel. In the region of this aberrant vessel a complete hair-cell loss is present. A high tone perceptive loss with a relative dip and tinnitus was found in the same ear during life. The possible cause and effects of this aberrant vessel are discussed.
