    Notizen: Abstract Populations of the hydrophilids Berosus styliferus Horn, Hydrophilus triangularis Say, and Tropisternus lateralis (Fabricius) were observed in northern California rice paddies. Relative adult and larval density for each species was determined using aquatic light traps adjacent to the water margin, and at 5 m and 30 m distances from the levee. Egg cases were monitored by recording numbers per unit area. The seasonal patterns of abundance indicate each species has a univoltine life cycle. All stages of B. styliferus and H. triangularis are more abundant nearer the levees. T. lateralis adults are commonly found at the levees during the first 10 weeks post-flood, whereas T. lateralis larvae and egg cases are most numerous at the 30 m distance. Colonication of the paddies occurs through water connections, flight, and adult overwintering.

    Notizen: Abstract Variables associated with the seasonal abundance of members of a prey complex consisting of Chironomidae, Corixidae and Crustacea, and of a predator guild including Belostomatidae, Dytiscidae, Hydrophilidae and Notonectidae sampled from California rice fields were evaluated by multiple regression analysis. Variables included water temperature, rice plant stand and potential predator-prey interactions. Regression equations using water temperature and rice plant stand as independent variables described the seasonal abundance of both the prey complex (F = 5.619; P = 0.025) and the predator guild (F = 9.037; P = 0.005). Predator-prey interactions further modified many of the seasonal patterns of the organisms observed.

    Notizen: Konformationsumwandlungen in N-Methyl-azacyclohexanen haben eine Besonderheit: Sie können sowohl unter Ringinversion als auch unter Stickstoffinversion verlaufen. Durch beide Vorgänge wird eine äquatoriale N-Methylgruppe in eine axiale umgewandelt und umgekehrt. Es ist zweckmäßig, die Energiebarrieren für die N-Methylinversion in zwei “Halbbarrieren„ für die Schritte axiale Form → Übergangszustand und äquatoriale Form → Übergangszustand zu zerlegen und beide Werte getrennt anzugeben. - In diesem Beitrag werden die N-Methylinversionsbarrieren zahlreicher methylierter Oligoazacyclohexane, auch mit Sauerstoff- oder Schwefelatomen im Ring, diskutiert.

    Notizen: Conformational conversions of N-methylazacyclohexanes are of particular interest: they can proceed either via ring- or nitrogen-inversion processes. In both procedures an equatorial N-methyl group is converted into an axial one, and the converse. It is appropriate to dissociate the energy barriers for N-methyl inversion into two “half-barriers” for the steps, axial form → transition state and equatorial form → transition state, and to report both values separately. - In this article the N-methyl inversion barriers of numerous methylated oligoazacyclohexanes, including species with oxygen or nitrogen atoms in the ring, are discussed.
