Notes: Summary In this paper we have studied the behaviour of PMMA in the binary mixture CCl4/n-butyl chloride by viscometry, light scattering and dyalisis. We have found that the CCl4/n-butyl chloride mixture behaves as cosolvent in the range 10 〈 u2 〈 90% n-butyl chloride. The n-butyl chloride is preferentially adsorbed in the whole composition range. The obtained results are discussed attending to GE and the liquid order.

Notes: Summary We have calculated the λ parameter from Ptitsyn-Eizner equation for PMMA in several theta solvents (2-heptanone, acetonitrile, n-butyl chloride and nitromethane). We have found an equation that allows us to separate the long- and the short-range contributions to λ parameter.

Notes: Summary We have studied the PMMA viscometric behaviour in the polar binary mixture THF(1)/water(2). The results obtained point out that this mixture presents a synergistic effect in the composition interval 0 〈 u2〈12% (w/w) water. We have found also a sharp variation of the PMMA unperturbed dimensions, kΘ, which can be due to a conformational change. Starting from the evaluation of the intermolecular interaction parameter, B, and the Mark-Houwink-Sakurada exponent, the theta composition of the system has been determined.

Notes: Summary In this paper a relationship between the preferential adsorption coefficient and polymer molecular dimensions is proposed $$\lambda \frac{{〈 s^2 〉 ^{3/2} }}{2} = \lambda _\infty \frac{{〈 s^2 〉 ^{3/2} }}{2} + A(\frac{{〈 s_0^2 〉 }}{2})^{3/2} $$ This relationship is found to be valid for all polymers in good theta solvents and for any molecular weight.

Notes: Summary In this paper, we study the behaviour of PMMA(3) in the polar binary mixture chloroform(1)/acetic acid(2). In this system chloroform is preferentially adsorbed by PMMA in the range 0〈u2〈89% acetic acid. From this composition a weak adsorption of acetic acid has been detected; this can be explained suppossing an specific interaction between the polymer and the acetic acid, which might be of dipole-dipole type or by hydrogen bond.
