Notes: Abstract— Developmental changes of myelin proteins in chick sciatic nerve were studied at the stage of myelination by sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS)-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The myelin of adult hen peripheral nervous system (PNS) contained two glycoproteins (BR-P0 and PASII), both of which are unique to PNS myelin, in addition to the basic encephalitogenic protein, BP, which is common to CNS and PNS myelin. The other basic protein (BF-P2) found in the PNS of other species was not definitely detectable in hen PNS. At the early stages of myelination (from 14 to 18 embryonic days) the amounts of myelin proteins increased rapidly in parallel with the increase in number of layers of the myelin sheath of the PNS. At 14 embryonic days high molecular weight proteins were dominant, while myelin specific proteins were barely detectable in the PNS myelin fraction. At 18 embryonic days, however, BR-PO, BP and PASII proteins became the main protein components of the PNS myelin, whereas high molecular weight proteins decreased in quantitative importance during development. At the early stage of myelination other glycoproteins were also detectable in the PNS myelin. Radioactive fucose was actively incorporated into the two glycoproteins, BR-P0 and PASII, at the early stage of myelination in vivo. These results suggested that myelin proteins especially glycoproteins, may play an important role in PNS myelin formation.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary 1. The methylester derivative of DNP-amino acid was examined by gaschromatography and amino acid shown in fig. 1 was detected. 2. The gaschromatography was more sensitive than the ion-exchange chromatography, but detectable peaks were few, and it must be further studied. 3. The measurements of five amino acids in food were almost coincident with those obtained by the ion-exchange method in literatures.
Notes: Zusammenfassung 1.

Notes: Summary This experiment was conducted to make clear the immunobiological function of the tonsil and its orientation as a lymphatic organ. In pursuit of the relation between the thymus admitted as the central lymphatic organ und the tonsil, we made the neonatal and the juvenile thymectomy in the rabbit, thus examining what changes occurred in the tonsil and other lymphatic organs. The histological and biochemical natures of antibody-producing cells of the tonsil and another lymphatic organs were observed histologically with autoradiography and quantitatively with the fluid scintillation counter in thymectomized rabbits to which the bovine serum albumin was given as an antigen and thymidine, a specific predominant of nucleic acid DNA labeled with 3H, was injected intraperitoneally. It was found that in the tonsil of neonatally thymectomized rabbits 3H-thymidine uptake was evidently decreased as compared with that in non-thymectomized rabbits. The same decrease as above was observed in spleen and lymphnodes. On the contrary, in the tonsils of juvenilly thymectomized rabbits, 3H-thymidine uptake tended even to increase. In the sensitized cases, it was greater than in non-sensitized cases, especially in those with intact thymus. Histological findings showed that the putamen, the trabecula and the subepithelial zone around the germinal center took up 3H-thymidine well, but the center of secondary lymph nodules hardly did so. It is presumable from those observations that the tonsil is the secondary lymphatic tissue peripheralized by the thymus and that the thymus plays an important role in supplying lymphatic cells to the tonsil only for a very short period after birth.

Notes: Summary In this paper, a theory of the origin of the air column oscillations in the Hartmann-Sprenger (HS) tube excited by an air jet issuing from a convergent nozzle is presented. For the analysis, the following basic configuration is assumed. The air jet issuing from a nozzle forms a steady stagnation flow between the nozzle and the open end of the tube, and the air column in the tube remains at rest. A massless hypothetical membrane is assumed at the open end of the tube. When a sinusoidal vibration of the membrane with very small amplitude is assumed, its radiation impedance is obtained by calculating the reactive forces of the flow field acting on the membrane on each side. If the real part of the radiation impedance is negative, the field is unstable, and the air column in the HS tube will be excited to oscillation. The analytical results can explain well the experimental observations.
