ZusammenfaBung Perspektiven kranken an der Tatsache, daB sie mit Denkkategorien der Gegenwart die Zukunft deuten müBen. Allein, ohne Perspektiven, d. h. ohne rationale Planung, überläBt man sich dem Zufall. Die Vernunft gebietet die behutsame Erstellung von Perspektiven; so werden im einzelnen abgehandelt: Bedeutung der Geschichte für die Chirurgie, Notwendigkeit kontrollierter Studien, operatives Training, Aufklärung des chirurgischen Nachwuchses, Rotation, Standortbestimmung, Beginn der anthropologischen Krankheitslehre und chirurgische Konsequenzen, Entscheidungshilfen für chirurgische Arbeit, Form und Funktion von Sprache in Medizin und Chirurgie, Beziehung der Chirurgen untereinander.

Summary A discuBion of prospects suffers from the fact that prediction of the future must be based on current modes of thinking. However, without prospects, i. e., without rational planning, the individual is left to chance. Reasoning governs the careful estimation of prospects and is applied to the following areas of interest: The importance of history in surgery, the neceBity of supervised studies, operative training, instructing young surgeons, rotation, aBeBment of position, anthropologic nosology and surgical consequences, aBistance in decisions about surgical work, the kind and function of linguistics in medicine and surgery, and the relationships between surgical colleagues.
