Notes: Year by year in lecturing on the law of contracts I am asked by successive generations of students whether the Polemis decision applies to the measure of damages for breach of contract. This decision is one which gives no practitioner sleepless nights, but troubles the teacher and the student a good deal. It seems therefore worth while to preserve from destruction such documentary information as may throw any light upon the case beyond what is afforded by the reports of the judgments of Sankey J. (as he then was) and of the Court of Appeal. Accordingly, by the courtesy of Messrs. Holman, Fenwick and Willan, the solicitors for the owners of the Thrasyvoulos, I am able to print the following documents:—1. Points of Claim.2. Letters of April 26, 1920, from charterers' solicitors demanding particulars and of April 28, 1920, from owners' solicitors in reply.3. Points of Defence.4. Respondents' (charterers') Contentions.5. Claimants' (owners') Contentions.6. Award and Special Case dated December 20, 1920.7. Further Finding by the Arbitrators dated February 11, 1921.8. Judgment of Sankey J. dated May 5, 1921, which, though reported in 26 Commercial Cases and 37 Times Law Reports, is reprinted here from the transcript for the benefit of readers to whom these reports may not be available.

Notes: Summary This paper introduces a new approach for evaluating exactly certain infinite integrals. The method is demonstrated on a number of integrals which are not listed in the standard integral tables. The evaluated integrals are of the type $$\int_0^\infty {kei (\lambda \eta ) d\eta ;} \int_{ - \infty }^\infty {kei (\lambda \sqrt {x^2 + \eta ^2 } ) d\eta ;} \int_{ - \infty }^\infty {sin (\alpha \eta ) kei|\lambda (y - \eta )|d\eta }$$ where kei is a modified Bessel function. It is also shown how other integrals of this type may be easily evaluated by the presented method.

Notes: Summary A comparative study of the charge transport kinetics of oppositely charged lipophilic probe ions in lipid bilayer membranes of varying composition was carried out by using the charge pulse technique. The ions investigated were the chemical analogs tetraphenylborate, tetraphenylarsonium and tetraphenylphosphonium. Membrane structural aspects investigated were the type of solvent used in membrane formation, sterol content, and the nature of the principal lipid. The overall results indicate that the character of the transport process involving positive lipophilic probes is, in contrast to positively charged carrier complexes, very similar to that deduced in previous studies of negative lipophilic ions. The major effect on transport of lipophilic ions of both signs using differentn-alkane solvents appears to be due to changes in the thickness of the membrane hydrocarbon region. Positive ion transport is relatively sensitive to the inclusion of sterols of several types in both monoolein and lecithin membranes, as compared with negative ion transport, suggesting that a combination of sterol-induced dipolar field and fluidity changes are involved. Results involving several variations in lipid structure, with the possible exception of hydrocarbon tail saturation, when interpreted in terms of dipolar field changes deduced under the assumption of charge independent fluidity effects, are consistent with monolayer surface potential measurements.

Notes: Summary Operative treatment of femur fractures in 20 polytraumatized children had worse late results than conservative treatment of 14 comparable fractures except for the CCD angle. The indication for operative treatment should be made very cautiously - also in polytraumatized children. The indications are listed. The most frequent indication for operative treatment after polytrauma was long-lasting severe motor agitation due to cerebral contusion.
