Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Im Gegensatz zur Anamnesendauer besteht eine Korrelation zwischen 5-Jahres-Überlebensquote und der Stadieneinteilung nach Dukes.
Notes: Summary In contrast to the duration of previous history, the 5-year survival in patients with carcinoma of the colon correlates with the stage of the tumor at surgery (Dukes classification). In 30 patients with stage-A carcinoma the 5-year survival was 66.7 percent, but in those with stage-B carcinoma it was 55 percent. Of the patients presenting with stage-D carcinoma, 50 percent of those with no distant metastases were still alive 3 years after surgery, and only 1 percent of those in whom distant metastases were present. If the regional, paraaortic or mesenteric lymph nodes were palpable and were affected by the carcinoma the 5-year survival rate fell from 50 percent to 17.9 percent. The involvement of regional, paraaortal and mesenteric lymph nodes seems to be a single factor in the prognosis.
