Description / Table of Contents: Summary After intravenous application of secretin and pancreozymin the duodenal content was tested on maltase, saccharase, cellobiase and lactase. After secretin a fall of all enzyme concentrations becomes evident, however, concidering the increase of water secretion, there is an increase of the total amount of enzymes. This rise is statistically significant for maltase only. After a stimulation with pancreozymin the total amounts of enzymes rise in different degrees in spite of a decrease in the amount of water secretion in comparison to the last measurement after secretin load. The different possibilities of the ways of mechanism of secretin and pancreozymin are discussed. From the results the conclusion can be made that part of the disaccharidases found in the lumen of the small intestine derive from the pancreas and that secretin and pancreozymin cause an increase of these hydrolases. The absolute amounts of disaccharidases in the lumen of the intestine, however, are too small as to influence the splitting of the disaccharides.

Notes: Abstract In this paper the solutions of the differential equation (D) wm + am−1 (Z) Wm−1. + ao(Z)=0 are discussed. In the definitions 1,2,3 functions are given measuring the growth of the coefficients resp. of the solutions of (D). Theorem 1 shows, that the l-fold iterated order of growth of the coefficients equals to the (l+1)-fold iterated order of growth of the solutions. In the case l=ρ=o theorem 1 passes over to the well known FUCHSian theory of regular singular points. Using proximate order theorem 4 gives an improved version of theorem 1.

Notes: Abstract The (fundamental) solutions of the differential equations (H) resp. (D) are of the form (1.2) resp. (1.3). The possible orders of growth and the possible types for the dk(z) resp. cj,μ(z) are given (theorems 1 and 5). One can decide however only in a few cases, which orders and types are realized (theorems 1,5,9 and 10). Theorems 3,4,8 give upper bounds for the dimensions of certain spaces of solutions of (H). A charakterization of regular singular integrals by means of order of growth is given in theorem 3.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung In Fortsetzung der Untersuchungen von LaBach u. White beschriebenen Ceramide darstellen.
Notes: Summary Following the investigations of LaBach and White (1969) and of White et al. (1969) we characterized the sphingolipid bases of the anaerobe Bacteroides species B. fragilis, B. thetaiotaomicron and B. vulgatus. The bases pooled and purified by column chromatography were reduced to aldehydes by sodium metaperiodate oxidation, and in a second step these aldehydes oxidized to fatty acids by silver oxide. The fatty acids obtained in this manner were esterified by diazomethane and identified directly and after hydrogenation by gasliquid-chromatography with the aid of test substances. We obtained eleven fatty acids corresponding to the following sphingolipid bases: 1. branched and n-hexadeca-sphinganine; 2. iso-, anteiso-branched and n-heptadeca-sphinganine; 3. iso-branched and n-octadeca-sphinganine; 4. iso- and anteiso-branched nonadeca-sphinganine; 5. eicosa-sphinganine; 6. eicosa-sphingenin. These results are in correspondence with the heterogeneity of the bases known from B. melaninogenicus. Therefore, we believe to have demonstrated that generally the members of the genus Bacteroides are able to synthesize branched and straightened saturated, sometimes also unsaturated sphingolipid bases with 16 to 20 Carbon units. These sphingolipid long chain bases are the spine of the ceramides described by LaBach and White.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1.
Notes: Summary 1. Biphase cold-antibodies against Yoshida-hepatom ascites cells were demonstrated to be in the serum from Sprague-Dawley, BD VI and BDE rats. Adding human complement a cytotoxic reaction only takes place in the heat (37° C), if at first the cells were incubated with the antibodies containing serum in the cold (0° C). Autologous rat serum is not capable of creating viability loss of the cells as source of complement. 2. With Sprague Dawley and BD VI rats cold-antibodies occur both with normal and with ascites bearing rats. With the BDE rats there is a relation between the existence of coldantibodies and ascites transplantation. Only with 1 out of 44 normal BDE rats cold-anti-bodies could be demonstrated in the serum, while 15 out of 25 ascites bearing BDE rats had coldantibodies. With additional 12 out of 20 BDE rats, which did not show tumor growth after transplantation of ascites cells, antibodies also occurred in the serum. The suggestion therefore is that the cold-antibodies occur after an infection, which, in the case of the BDE rats, is stimulated by the transplantation of fresh ascites cells.
