Conclusions 1. The inhibition of the autooxidation ofβ-carotene in benzene occurs at high concentrations of the antioxidant with respect to the polyene, which is associated with high reactivity of carotene in oxidative conversions. 2. The effectiveness of inhibitors of the oxidation ofβ-carotene decreases in the series 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino-1-oxy〉 2,2,4-trimethyl-6-ethoxy-1,2-dihydroquinoline〉dimethyldi-p-phenylaminophenoxysilane〉α-naphthol〉2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol〉α-naphthylamine. 3. The effectiveness of the inhibitor 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidino-1-oxy decreases as its concentration increases. 4. The autocatalytic character of the oxidation ofβ-carotene is due to an increase in the rate of formation of free radicals in the course of the process.
