Notes: The following two questions are examined: 1o Do the unobservable parameters possess precise, though unknown, values ? 2o If these unobservable values were known, would it be possible to make precise predictions of the reults of later measurements ?The answer is shown to be negative; the questions, therefore, are not meaningless, being capable of a falsification. The inquiry leads to the establishment of a principle of anomaly, more precisely speaking, of causal anomaly, which is to be added to Heisenberg's principle of indeterminacy. This principle states that the principle of action by contact is violated whenever definite values are assigned to the unobserved quantities, i. e., when an exhaustive interpretation of quantum mechanics is used. The two most important exhaustive interpretations are given by the corpuscle and the wave interpretation; each leads to causal anomalies, though for different places. The causal anomalies can be eliminated by the use of a restrictive interpretation, which separates statements about unobserved quantities, as a third propositional class, from true or false statements. Bohr and Heisenberg have called such statements meaningless, without being able to eliminate them completely; these statements arte thus merely shifted into the metalanguage. In another version of the restrictive interpretation such statements are assigned a third truth value, the value indeterminate, and quantum mechanics is then presented in the form of a three-valued logic. The inquiry is carried through without the presupposition of any philosophical conception; every interpretation is examined with respect to the consequences to which it leads. - H. Notes: Summary In this first article on the carotenoids of Myxobacterales we report on the minor carotenoids of Stigmatella aurantiaca: phytoene, phytofluene, lycopene, γ-carotene, 4-keto-γ-carotene, 1′,2′-dihydro-1′-hydroxy-γ-carotene, 4-keto-1′,2′-dihydro-1′-hydroxy-γ-carotene, 4-keto-1′,2′-dihydro-1′-hydroxy-torulene, and 1,2,1′,2′-tetrahydro-1,1′-dihydroxy-lycopene. These pigments account for about 10% of total carotenoids.

Notes: Zusammenfassung 1.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary 1. Particles found in cultures of Archangium violaceum (Myxobacteriales) are described. They are obviously identical in all morphological features with the so called rhapidosomes in Saprospira (Lewin 1963). 2. The particles are channeled rods, in average 92 nm long and 24 nm wide, the channel with 10 nm in diameter. The channel can be seen only in negative stained mounts (phosphotungstic acid). 3. About 60–80% of these rods show a long, slender, wicklike process, a tail, 100 nm long and 9 nm wide, which penetrates the head through the above mentioned channel and oftentimes emerges again as a short nose at the front part of the head. This tail bears a channel, too, which is about 2.5 nm wide. 4. The height of the heads, calculated from the dimensions of the shadow, appears to be about 20% less the width. This would fit rather well with the hypothesis of a hexagonal shape. 5. In respect to the meaning of these particles are two possibilities discussed: a phage-and a cell constituent-hypothesis. At the moment it is not possible to decide between these two hypotheses.
Notes: Zusammenfassung 1.
