    Notes: Abstract The ratio of the axial-vector to vector coupling constant, ¦g 1/f 1¦, in theΣ −→ne − $$\bar v$$ decay was determined from the electron-neutrino angular distribution. In a sample of 454Σ −→ne − $$\bar v$$ decays a search was made for subsequent neutron proton scattering in order to detect the decay neutrons. TheΣ hyperons were produced by stoppingK −-mesons in the 81 cm Saclay hydrogen bubble chamber. For the kinematical analysis 33Σ −→ne − ν events with associatednp→np interactions were accepted. The value ¦g 1/f 1¦=0.37 −0.19 +0.26 was obtained.

    Notes: Abstract We have found a possible example of the rare decayσ + →nΜ + Ν, which violatesδS=δQ. The positive decay track of theσ + comes to rest in the hydrogen bubble chamber and decays into ane +. This track has all the characteristics of a stoppingΜ +. The decay neutron fortuitously scatters twice, producing two recoil protons. The only other possible interpretation of the event isσ +→nγ(π + →Μ + Ν), where theπ + →Μ + Ν decay produces no deflection (θ〈0.1 rad) and no significant change in curvature. Using thep-wave radiative decay predictions ofBarshay et al. we calculate that the integrated branching ratio for such “accidental” events isγ(σ + →nγ(π + →Μ stop + Ν))/γ(σ + →nπ +)=1.6×10−6. Most of the contribution to this “accidental” branching ratio comes from radiative decays where theπ + mesons have ranges less than 1 mm (p π〈20 MeV/c). If one excludes thoseΜ's with ranges less than 1.2 cm the above “accidental” branching ratio becomes 5.5×10−7. With this figure we estimate that we should have seen 6.5×10−2 events of this type thusfar in our experiment. The neutron momentum does not help in deciding between the two hypotheses. We therefore assign a confidence level of 7% for the radiative hypothesis. For the leptonic hypothesis we obtain an estimate of the branching ratio,γ(σ + →nΜ + Ν)/γ(σ + →nπ +)=5×10−5. If one further accepts theσ + →nπ + Ν event reported byBarbaro-Galtieri et al. and theσ + →ne + Ν event reported byNauenberg et al., one obtains theδS=−δQ leptonic branching ratio [γ(σ + →nΜ + Ν)+γ(σ + →ne + Ν)]/γ(σ + →nπ +)=(4±3)×10−5.

    Notes: Abstract From about 6×106 stoppingK −-meson reactions in the Saclay 80 cm hydrogen bubble chamber 70Σ −→Λe−¯ν and 11Σ+→Λe+ν decays have been identified. The ratio of the vector to axial vector coupling constant has been determined,f 1/g 1=−0.22±0.28, consistent with the predictionf 1=0 of the CVC-theory. The branching ratios for the two decay modes are,Γ(Σ −→Λe−ν)/Γ(Σ−→ all modes)=(0.69±0.12). 10−4,Γ(Σ+→Λe+ν)/Γ(Σ+→ all modes)=(0.29±0.10). 10−4. The ratio, Γ(Σ+→Λe+)/Γ(Σ−→Λe−v)=0.69±0.18, agrees with the phase space ratio, 0.61, therefore a theory that includes no second class currents is consistent with the data.

    Notes: Abstract The decay modesΣ ±→nπ ± γ, Σ +→pγ,Σ + →pe + e }- were studied in the 81 cm Saclay hydrogen bubble chamber. In the radiative decayΣ ±→nπ ± γ only low momentum pions which stop in the chamber were accepted. We obtain the following branching ratios: (1) $$\frac{{\Gamma {\text{(}}\sum ^{\text{ + }} \to n\pi ^ + \gamma , p_{\pi + }^*〈 110{\text{ MeV/c)}}}}{{\Gamma {\text{(}}\sum ^{\text{ + }} \to n\pi ^ + )}} = (2.7 \pm 0.5) \times 10^{ - 4} ,$$ (2) $$\frac{{\Gamma {\text{(}}\sum ^ - \to n\pi ^ - \gamma , p_{\pi - }^*〈 110{\text{ MeV/c)}}}}{{\Gamma {\text{(}}\sum ^ - \to n\pi ^ - )}} = (1.0 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{ - 4} ,$$ (3) $$\frac{{\Gamma {\text{(}}\sum ^ + \to p\gamma {\text{)}}}}{{\Gamma {\text{(}}\sum ^ + \to p\pi ^0 )}} = (2.1 \pm 0.3) \times 10^{ - 3} ,$$ (4) $$\frac{{\Gamma {\text{(}}\sum ^ + \to pe^ + e^ - {\text{)}}}}{{\Gamma {\text{(}}\sum ^ + \to p\pi ^0 )}} = (1.5 \pm 0.9) \times 10^{ - 5} .$$ The radiative branching ratios (1) and (2) agree well with theoretical calculations and confirm very strongly the assignmentS wave toΣ − →nπ − andP wave toΣ +→nπ + decay. The branching ratio (4) is based on 3 events with very low invariant masses of the electron-positron pair, being most probably radiative decays with internal conversion of theγ-ray. Combining (3) and (4) we obtain for the conversion coefficientρ: in agreement with predictions from electrodynamics.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Bei pseudograviden infantilen Ratten bewirkt Cyproteron eine gestagenähnliche Stimulierung der endogenen LH-Freigabe-Funktion. Testosteronpropionat und Cyproteron üben bei ovarektomierten Ratten in der hier gewählten Dosierung einen schwachen inhibierenden Effekt auf die Gonadotropin-Freigabe (GR) aus. Beide Steroide bewirken nach simultaner Injektion eine starke Blockade der GR-Funktion. Die zusätzliche Verabfolgung eines Freigabe-Faktors führt nicht zu der sonst nach Steroidblockade beobachteten erhöhten Gonadotropinausschüttung. Dieses Ergebnis ist wahrscheinlich als Folge einer entgegengesetzten Wirkung beider Substanzen auf den LH-Gehalt der Adenohypophyse anzusehen. Die vorliegenden Untersuchungen lassen einen kompetitiven hypothalamischen Androgen-Antagonismus von Cyproteron nicht erkennen.
    Notes: Summary Following the administration of cyproterone to pseudopregnant rats, a gestagenic stimulation of the endogenous LH-releasing-function is observed. Testosterone-propionate and cyproterone in our dose are weak inhibitors of the hypothalamic releasing-function in ovarectomized rats. Simultaneous administration of testosterone and cyproterone compensates the antagonistic effect of both compounds on the hypophyseal LH-content; following testosterone treatment no different action of exogeneous releasing-factor occurs. Simultaneous injection of testosterone and cyproterone provokes additional steroidal blockade of the releasing-function; the gonadotropic activity of the anterior lobe decreases. This way cyproterone may inhibit androgenic sexual differentiation. No competitive androgen antagonism of cyproterone at the receptor organs was detected in the presented investigation.

Die durch HCG induzierte Zunahme des Maus-Uterus-Gewichtes konnten wir mit dem Epiphysenextrakt nicht hemmen. Extrakt aus normalem Kinderurin führte zu einer Verminderung des hypophysären LH-Gehaltes ovarektomierter Ratten; dieser Befund könnte für eine neuroendokrin bedingte LH-Inhibitor-Wirkung sprechen. Der Serum-LH-Gehalt ovarektomierter Ratten und die LH-Wirkung am luteinisierten Ovar infantiler pseudogravider Ratten blieben durch den Extrakt aus Kinderurin unbeeinflußt.
    Notes: Summary Bovine pineal gland extracts were assayed for their influence on the neuroendocrine regulation of the adenohypophyseal LH-incretion. No inhibitory activity was found. The same extract exercised no effect on the LH-induced ascorbic acid depletion of the luteinized ovary of infantile pseudopregnant rats. The inhibitory effect of the pineal gland extract on the HCG-induced increase of the mouse uterine weight could not be reproduced. Urinary extract of normal children diminished the hypophyseal LH content of ovarectomized rats as indicated by lowered LH release; this effect may be due to neuroendocrine LH inhibition; no influence was demonstrated on plasma LH of ovarectomized rats and on the LH-induced ascorbic acid depletion.
