    Notes: Four 2,4-disubstituted 6,7-dihydro-imidazo[1,2-a]-s-triazines (IV, VII, X and XV) have been synthesized according to the following scheme: (a) monosubstitution of cyanuric chloride (I) with ethanolamine, (b) replacement of the remaining chlorine atomes by suitable groupe, and (c) cyclisation of the 2′-hydroxy-ethylamino side chain on one of the adjacent cyclic nitrogen atoms of the s-triazine nucleus. This last step includes reaction of the 2-[(2-hydroxy-ethyl)-amino]-s-triazines with thionyle chloride or p-toluenesulfonyl chloride and, with one exception (VIII→IX), heating the resulting 2-[(2-chloro-ethyl)-amino] derivatives or p-toluenesulfonic esters in a solvent.

    Notes: The reactions between aluminium alkoxides (methoxide, ethoxide, isopropoxide, n, sec. and tert. butoxides) and acetyl bromide has been studied and the compounds of the type: AlBr(OR)2, Al(OR)Br2 · 0.5 CH3COOR and AlBr3 · 1.5 CH3COOR, where OR is OMe, OEt, OPri, n, sec. or tert. OBu, have been isolated. The reaction of aluminium tert. butoxide and acetyl bromide was found to be very slow in cold as well as in boiling condition. The above compounds were crystallised from their respective alcohols, whereever possible. The ease with which these compounds exchange their radicals has been demonstrated by the reaction between tri-bromide and mono-bromide di-isopropoxide, in isopropanol, whereby the di-bromide was crystallised out. These bromide alkoxides are not stable to heat, even under reduced pressure.

    Notes: The reactions of aluminium isopropoxide and aluminium chloride with salicylic, mandelic and lactic acids in different stoichiometric ratios have been studied under absolutely anhydrous conditions. Mandelic and lactic acids were found to give tri-derivatives, whereas the salicylic acid gave only di-salicylate when the ratios of alkoxide and the acid was 1:3 (or slightly higher) or an equimolecular mixture of di-and tri-salicylate when the ratio was increased to 1:3.4 (or 3.4).

    Notes: Different methods have been investigated for the preparation of N-CBO-S-benzyl- L-cysteinyl-N-methyl-L-tyrosyl-L-isoleucine. Condensation of this protected tripeptide with L-glutaminyl-L-asparaginyl-S-benzyl-L-cysteinyl-L-prolyl-L-leucyl-glycinamide affords N-CBO- S -benzyl-L-cysteinyl-N -methyl-L-tyrosyl-L-isoleucyl-L-glutaminyl-L- asparaginyl-S-benzyl-L-cysteinyl-L-prolyl-L-leucyl-glycinamide. Cleavage of the protecting groups of the resulting nonapeptide with sodium in liquid ammonia, oxidation with air in dilute aqueous solution and purification by counter-current distribution gives the desired cyclic nonapeptide amide : (N-methyl-Tyr)2-oxytocin. This exhibits less than one per cent of the oxytocic potency of oxytocin.

    Notes: N-CBO-L-Glutaminyl-L-asparaginyl-S-benzyl-L-cysteinyl-azide has been condensed with L-prolyl-∊-N-tosyl-L-lysyl-glycinamide, giving N-CBO-L-glutaminyl L-asparaginyl-S-benzyl-L-cysteinyl-L-prolyl∊-N-tosyl-L-lysyl-glycinamide, which after spliting of the CBO-protecting group has been condensed with N-CBO-S-benzyl-L-cysteinyl-L-tyrosyl-L-isoleucyl-azide. Cleavage of the protecting groups of the resulting nonapeptide with sodium in liquid ammonia, oxidation with air in dilute aqueous solution and purification by counter-current distribution afforded Lys8-oxytocin, which represents a structural intermediate between oxytocin and lysine-vasopressin and which exhibits the biological properties of both these natural hormones.

    Notes: Investigations by X-ray and electron diffraction show that sodium chloride will be bound by casein, if the salt is added in aqueous solution to the protein and if the water is then removed under isothermal and nearly reversible conditions. This confirms earlier results obtained by water sorption measurements. The diffraction method is a simple and safe way for determining the maximum salt binding capacity of the protein. 90 to 95 models of NaCl are bound by 105 g of casein, which is more than 80% of the amount calculated from the amino-acid composition of the protein.

    Notes: Using a solution of [35S]-phenylisothiocyanate in pentane with a specific activity of 30 to 8O mC/mmole, the authors have determined the sequence of di-, tri-peptides and a pentapeptide on the following quantities: 1 to 2 nmole of peptide when the [35S]-phenylthiohydantoines obtained in each step of EDMAN'S degradation are identified by classical paper chromatography; 0,l to 0,2 nmole of peptide when these [35S]-phenylthiohydantoines are identified by silica thin layer chromatography.
