Summary Plain radiographies of the skull must be made whenever the suspicion of a brain abscess arises. Cerebral angiography permits generally the exact localisation of a brain abscess. In some cases the wall of the abscess may be visualized, so that the differential diagnosis between brain abscess, glioblastoma multiforme and metastatic tumour has to be considered.
