Summary The effect of puromycin and its aminonucleoside on protein synthesis has been compared in Ehrlich ascites tumor cells of the mouse, and in rat liver and kidney. While the blocking of cytoplasmatic protein synthesis by puromycin was confirmed, aminonucleoside had no appreciable effect in this regard, even after prolonged application. Nuclear protein synthesis was not interfered with by both puromycin and aminonucleoside. Injected tritium tagged aminonucleoside was retained in the body only in small amounts and showed no prevalence for a single organ in the rat, but was distributed almost evenly over the whole body, even after prolonged application.

Zusammenfassung Es wurde die Wirkung von Puromycin und seinem Aminonucleosid auf die Eiweißsynthese in Ehrlich-Ascitestumorzellen der Maus sowie in Rattenleber und -niere untersucht. Während die Hemmung der cytoplasmatischen Proteinsynthese bestätigt werden konnte, zeigte das Aminonucleosid, auch nach protrahierter Applikation, keinen gleichartigen Effekt. Die Polypeptidsynthese im Zellkern wird weder durch Puromycin noch durch Aminonucleosid beeinflußt. Injiziertes, tritiummarkiertes Aminonucleosid wird im Tierkörper nur in sehr geringen Mengen retiniert; es zeigt sich keine Bevorzugung eines bestimmten Organs, vielmehr wird es, auch nach längerer Applikation, fast gleichmäßig im Körper verteilt.
