    Notes: Abstract Background. We constructed the expression profile of proximal tubules, which is a database of 3′-directed partial cDNA sequences randomly collected from mouse proximal tubules. By comparing lists with those of various tissues, genes unique to each tissue can be identified. Methods. One of the sequences, GS4068, corresponding to a tissue-specific gene found only in mouse renal proximal tubules, was cloned and identified as mouse uroguanylin. Northern blot analyses were performed using mRNA isolated from the kidney and intestine of dehydrated and NaCl-loaded mice. In situ hybridization was done to localize its expression in the kidney. Results. In situ hybridization demonstrated that it was located around the corticomedullary junction of the kidney. Seventy-two h of dehydration induced the mRNA expression in the kidney but not in the intestine. Acute NaCl loading, however, did not induce mRNA in the kidney or in intestine. Conclusion. Mouse uroguanylin was localized presumably in the proximal tubules of the kidney. Its mRNA in the kidney was induced by 72-h dehydration, but not by acute NaCl loading.

    Notes: Abstract. The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical applicability of two-dimensional (2D) thick-slice, contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance digital subtraction angiography (MRDSA) with high temporal resolution in diagnosis of brain tumors. Forty-four patients with brain tumors including, 15 meningiomas, 8 gliomas, 6 metastatic tumors, 4 neuromas, and 2 hemangioblastomas, were studied with 2D MRDSA with frame rate approximately 1 s. Images were continuously obtained following the initiation of bolus injection of gadolinium chelates for 40 s and subtraction images were generated in a workstation. We evaluated visualization of normal cranial vessels on MRDSA and compared MRDSA and intra-arterial digital subtraction angiography (IADSA) with regard to hemodynamic information. Large cerebral arteries, all venous sinuses, and most tributaries were clearly visualized. A stain was present in hypervascular tumors including all 15 meningiomas and 2 hemangioblastomas on MRDSA. Presence of a stain demonstrated on MRDSA and that on IADSA coincided in 16 of 20 cases (Spearman rank correlation value was 0.85). The location, shape, and phase of the stain on MRDSA were similar to those on IADSA. Two-dimensional MRDSA with high temporal resolution has a unique ability to demonstrate cerebral hemodynamics, such as IADSA, and can play an important role in assessing brain tumors.

    Notes: Abstract Measurements ofthe thermal conductivity of five alternative refrigerants. namely, difluoromethane HFC-321. pentafluoroethane (HFC-125), 1,1,1-trifluoroethane (HFC-143a), and dichloropentafluoropropanes (HCFC-225ca and HCFC-225cb). are carried out in the liquid phase, The range of temperature is 253–324 K for HFC-32, 257–305 K for HFC-125, 268–314 K for HFC-134a. 267–325 K for HCFC-225ca, and 286–345 K for HCFC-225cb, The pressure rank is from saturation to 30 MPa, The reproducibility of the data is better than 0.5% and the accuracy of the data is estimated to be of the order of 1%. The experimental results for the thermal conductivity ofeach substance are correlated by an equation which is a function of temperature and pressure. A short discussion is given to the comparison of the present results with literature values for HFC-125, The saturated liquid thermal conductivity values of HFC-32. HFC-125, and HFC-143a are compared with those of chlorodifluoromethane (HCFC-22) and tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a) and it is shown that the value of HFC-32 is highest, while that of HFC-125 is lowest, among these substances, The dependence of thermal conductivity on number of fluorine atoms among the refrigerants with the same number of carbon and hydrogen atoms is discussed.
