    Notizen: Abstract The longitudinal and transverse magnetostriction λ of the spin-Peierls compound CuGeO3 in the b-c plane is measured in magnetic fields up to 20 T both above and below the transition temperature T sp=14.3K. It is found that for a given crystallographic direction the value of magnetostriction is weakly dependent on the magnetic field direction. In the uniform U phase at T⩾T sp, λ is negative and approximately equal in the b and c directions, while in the dimerized D phase at T〈T sp, λ is positive and λ b 〉λ c . At low temperatures, λ increases sharply at the magnetic-field-induced transition from the dimerized to the magnetic M phase. The experimental data allow estimation of the stress derivatives of the antiferromagnetic intrachain exchange interaction parameter and of the stress dependence of the critical field of the D-Mphase transition.

    Notizen: Abstract: The optical reflectivity as a function of temperature of the title compound for x =0, 5 and 12 has been measured over a broad spectral range from 4 meV up to 12 eV. Our findings suggest a very anisotropic dynamics of the charge excitation spectrum when measuring along or perpendicular to the ladders. Moreover, a metal-insulator transition develops at low temperatures, leading to a suppression of Drude spectral weight in the far and mid-infrared spectral range. We identify this behaviour as a consequence of the localization effects for small Ca substitution, and of the possible formation of a charge density wave condensate for large Ca substitution.

    Notizen: Abstract Point contact spectroscopy results obtained along the CuO planes an oriented LaSrCuO samples are presented. Both Andreev and tunneling contacts have been studied, up to 100 meV. The results are interpreted within the framework of a recent theory of inelastic transport through normal metal-superconductor interfaces, and both types of contacts are consistent with this theory. They point clearly to the electron-phonon interaction as the source of this inelastic scattering and of superconductivity in this cuprate.

    Notizen: Abstract Point contact measurements in oriented La2−xSrxCuO4 samples were performed using metal tips. The current-voltage curves measured along the CuO plane direction (ab) are characteristic of the Andreev reflection phenomenon. The superconducting energy gap in theab plane is determined, Δab = 6± 1 meV, with a possibility for the existence of a lower subgap in the plane. A lower limit for the Fermi velocity in the CuO planes is also set by the measurements;V F≥6×107 cm/sec, which is significantly higher than the average velocity obtained by band calculations. The results are discussed in the context of different models for superconductivity in the layered oxides. In particular, we raise the possibility of an anisotropic gap parameter which may indicate a nonstandards-wave pairing in La2−xSrxCuO4. A comparison with previous results obtained on YBa2Cu2O7−δ is made.
