Notes: Abstract Luminescence of Ti2+: LiF crystals in the wavelength range 650–900 nm excited using laser radiation is reported. The values of 10Dq and the Racah B parameter obtained from the present results indicate that in LiF the 1 E, 1 T 2, and 3 T 2 energy levels are almost at the “cross-over” point in the Tanabe-Sugano diagram. In consequence photoluminescence from all three energy levels to the ground state is observed. At low temperature (T ∼ 14 K) the emission is mainly due to sharp emission lines with weak vibronic structure due to the 1 E, 1 T 2→3 T 1 transitions of Ti2+ ions. The 3 T 2→3 T 1 broad-band emission is weak at low temperature, becoming stronger at 300 K due to a phonon-assisted tunnelling process, similar to that observed in Cr3+: garnets [1]. The excitation spectrum of these lines is a broad peak at 590 nm due to absorption in the 3 T 1→3 T 2 transition.

Notes: Abstract This paper reports on the luminescence spectrum, its excitation-wavelength dependence and decaytime of Cr3+:LiF crystals. In contrast to Al2O3 and MgO, where the Cr3+ luminescence at low temperature is due to the R-line and its vibronic sideband, luminescence from Cr3+:LiF is assigned to the broad-band 4 T 2→4 A 2 transition. A periodic structure in the vibronic sidebands of this transition occurs with energy separations of ca. 60 meV. The linear polarisation of the vibronic sidebands shows that their radiative transition takes place from the lowest excited level of the 4 T 2 state, i.e. 4 B 1, into the 4 A 2 ground state of Cr3+ ions in orthorhombic symmetry sites. The crystal-field parameters calculated from the experimental data, and luminescence decay-time of the two polarized configurations of the 4 B 1(4 T 2)→4 A 2 transition are also reported.

Notes: Summary By means of the multiple marker analysis, a total of 55 human leukemia-lymphoma cell lines which included 15 T-cell, 30 B-cell, four myelomonocytic-cell, and six non-T, non-B cell lines was characterized for their marker profiles. The multiple markers used included a number of cell surface markers as detected by either rosette or immunofluorescence tests, enzyme assays, cytogenetic analysis, and certain functional assay. Based on the criteria previously defined it was found that all the cell lines were proved to represent original leukemia-lymphoma of ALL, AML, CLL, CML in blastic phase or variety of lymphomas. The monoclonality, a “frozen” state at a specific stage of differentiation-maturation, and cytogenetic marker in each leukemia-lymphoma cell line were remarkable common properties and were stable for years of cultivation. Similar, if not identical, general characteristics were observed in the study on 344 cases of uncultured fresh leukemia-lymphomas by the multiple marker analysis. While no single marker specific to any type of tumor was found, the study offers not only a basis for better understanding of the biology of leukemia-lymphoma but also an insight into normal hematopoietic cell differentiation in man.

Notes: Solid and granular porous hydroxylapatite implants were compared in the surgical treatment of angular interproximal periodontal defects in 10 subject. After completion of initial therapy, presurgical measurements of pocket depth, attachment level, gingival recession, gingival fluid and tooth mobility were recorded. Six months after the surgery the measurements were repeated. The use of both forms of porous hydroxylapatite resulted in reduction in pocket depth, and probebale attachment level gains as well as gingival recession and reduction of gingival fluid and tooth mobility. These changes were similar for both granular and solid forms of porous hydroxylapatite.
