Notes: Summary Between 1969 and 1979, seventy-nine patients suffering from a cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage, were operated on in the neurosurgical department of the University Clinic Essen (West Germany). A modified classification, the onset of symptoms and the diagnostic procedures are described and some data are compared with the results of other investigators. Other methods of closing a CSF fistula and the timing of operation are briefly discussed. Also the case history of a patient with orbitorrhoea is described.

Notes: Summary The authors studied the changes in oxygen saturation and CO2-concentration in the blood in the bulbus venae jugularis during surgical treatment of intracranial angiomas. In each case therapy consisted of resection. Under x-ray control catheters were introduced into the femoral artery, the superior vena cava and the internal jugular vein on the same side as the arteriovenous malformation. The results correspond to the operative progression. Characteristically, the carbon dioxide concentration rises and the oxygen tension is reduced. As the measurements prove, cerebral gas exchange is normalized by total resection of the angioma, which indicates physiological cerebral blood flow after the operation.
